I love the amazing wonders and versatility of SOUP! And my Pumpkin Beauty Soup Recipe is just another way to work on being mindful, as we eat one spoonful at a time.
Taking our time and eating foods that are already partially broken down for us can seem pointless to chew…but on the contrary! Every beauty food we choose to eat—from breakfast and snacks, to lunch and dinner—needs to be chewed down (yes, even liquids), so that it mixes with our natural enzymes found in our saliva. This will assist in aiding your body to break down these beauty foods so that we can actually benefit from them.
First, let’s talk squash…
Beauty Food Circle & Pumpkin
So what is the beauty food circle and what does it have to do with pumpkin? If you’re familiar with the food pyramid, then you know where this is heading. With Beauty Detox Solution, I am talking about an entirely different way to balance our diets. It’s time to imagine a circle, rather than a pyramid.
It is critical to remain focused (or start focusing, if new to Beauty Detox), on eating more alkaline foods, in order to not only maintain our weight, but improve our overall health and beauty. If we want to naturally balance our biochemistry, then we need to maintain a high balance of foods that leave an alkaline residue in our bodies.
What foods will do this? Whole plant foods that are easy to digest, and hence, will help cleanse our system of toxins. As a result, we will get the spectrum of nutrients we need and will absorb these nutrients much better.
The beauty food circle is 80% beauty fruits, greens and vegetables, and 20% beauty protein, carbohydrates, starches and fats.
What this all means is that we must eat our alkaline foods first! No matter what whole meal we will be consuming, always begin by putting alkaline food first. These are foods such as; ripe fruit, raw vegetables or salad.
You should already be in the groove of mastering this with your GGS (Glowing Green Smoothie®), in your morning routine. This daily habit will pack you with alkaline, water-containing foods that will fill you up with amazing fiber, and never leave you feeling deprived.

Once you’ve mastered your greens then the rest of your day will be a breeze. And by adding today’s beauty food (squash aka: pumpkin), into the mix, you will be including yet another alkaline beauty food—creating an atmosphere your gut can’t resist—removing unwanted toxins and cleaning you from the inside out!
In addition, pumpkin contains antioxidants vitamin A and C—that will help to soften and soothe the skin and boost collagen production—keeping your skin fresh and looking your best.
Pumpkin really is a solid source of essential nutrients and should be added to our beauty foods rotation. And remember, if you’re in a bind and unable to prepare fresh pumpkin, organic pumpkin puree in cartons is an option (versus aluminum cans!).
This brings me to…
When should soup be eaten?
I cannot overstate this enough: make sure your soup is the first thing that you eat at a meal (as an appetizer), and ideally, try to give your body at least 10 minutes before adding anything else down the shoot.
Also, don’t eat a salad with your soup. Be clear with your waitress that you want your soup delivered first. If having the soup and sandwich option, have all of the soup before you eat the sandwich! Don’t go half and half, eating a bite of this, then a bite of that.
If you’re going to have a big entree soup, it’s best to skip the appetizer altogether, avoiding the bloat and not feeling so great. Why all the hype and concern about when to eat soup? Check out my blogs, “How To Eat Soup” and “The Easiest Weight Loss/Maintenance Tip Ever” for more info on why this is so important.
To sum it up, consuming liquids and water with your meals dilutes the hydrochloric acid in ours stomach (and other digestive juices), which means that our food doesn’t digest as easily and encourages weight gain!!!
So do your best when implementing these new health tips into your daily lives, and remember, “Progress, not perfection”.
My Definition of Beauty
If there is one thing you take away from this, it’s that I’m redefining beauty to be an empowering, attainable concept for all women and people.
Beauty is not about the typical shallow concept that is often circulated. If you’ve had the chance to look into my Radical Beauty book, you will have noticed that it has nothing to do with trendy makeup, fads, insecurities, or comparing ourselves with other women.
Instead of being shallow or limited to external body parts, Radical Beauty goes deep below the surface.
Try to remember that your uniqueness makes it unnecessary to compare yourself with anyone else. There is no space for comparison or competition. It’s truly about taking care of your own insides to help you feel your best and ultimately make you express your highest beauty on the outside- towards your own unique self.
By adding more Beauty Detox Foods into your daily lifestyles, you will be applying the Internal Nourishment Pillar (which is Pillar 1 in my Radical Beauty book), optimizing digestion and creating nutritional balance. The benefits are endless, from clearer, smoother, and more radiant complexion, to a flatter midsection and healthier, more lustrous hair!
