Hi Beauties and welcome back to our Monday interview podcast, where I’m thrilled that we have one of our favorite reoccurring guests back on Vaidya Jay. Vaidya Jay is the Sanskrit word for doctor. I affectionately call him Dr. Jay as well, but now he prefers via Jay. He is my personal Ayurveda teacher. I’ve been working with him for many years. He is so knowledgeable about Ayurveda in the deep wisdom of how this can help us in modern life, in self care, in really learning to tune in to the flow and the greater energies around us and how this can really benefit our physical bodies, our emotional wellbeing or mental health and so on and so forth. Today, we get into topics like burnout and transitioning between summer and fall, which is a big transition mentally and also in our bodies. So it’s a really great conversation.

Interview with Vaidya Jay

Kimberly: 00:51 I’m so excited to have you back on the podcast. One of my favorite guests as always, I feel like I always learn so much when we chat.

Vaidya Jay: 01:01 Thank you. Um, Kimberly, thank you for having me and then, uh, continuing a conversation to bring our audience to our way, uh, and, uh, longevity.

Kimberly: 01:14 Oh, your Ayurveda and longevity. And I feel like this month is a big one Vijay because it’s September, which is like a little bit of a funny month because sometimes it’s still hot. It’s high here in LA where we are, but it’s this transition from summer to fall in many ways, the weather changes. And then also energetically summers like, oh, go to the pool. Like things slowed down. A lot of people are out of the office and suddenly I feel it my own life. I could, Jay, um, Bobby just started kindergarten if you believe it.

Kimberly: 01:48 So is it school? And suddenly my mornings are like, oh my gosh, I have to, you know, fill out these COVID forms every day before we go to school, I have to make his lunch. I have to get them water. I said, get Moses ready and packed in the car. It’s just like, you know, and then the work and everything’s picking up and just so much going on. Um, Aveda J so it’s like this energetic shift that I think a lot of people are feeling right now. And we want to support our bodies during this and our minds.

Energetic shifts and transitioning with the climate

Vaidya Jay: 02:16 Yeah. Yeah. So any season, uh, you know, transition is called as Sunday in either the Sunday. Yeah. Sunday means, basically means an angle or a, uh, corner. So they will be cornered by certain aspects of time and space to adjust and come with a new perspective of life. Yes. So it also puts us to a challenge of resilience to seas to see how resilient we are, like all animals, birds are now to migrate because they are where they’re embracing their shift. And they’re the only, you know, uh, uh, beings on the earth who don’t embrace this challenge. But, uh, for longevity challenge in shift of, you know, climate is very vital. So I wouldn’t say it’s that one who embraces the change in the climate is bound to live a long, healthy life.

Kimberly: 03:29 W what do you mean embrace the change via Jay? Do you mean change our diet or mentally, you know, just not complain about the weather,

Vaidya Jay: 03:38 All the above, all of the above, because you know, there’s a physical change then from an IOT point of view, a physical change is, you know, definitely a mental shift. A mental shift is an emotional adjustment because we are having some fixated ideas of some are wearing certain type of clothes being in the ocean or being in the water pools that has been fixated into us. And now we are going to lose that. So that is emotionally shifting. And then all of this will gradually go towards a spiritual acceptance and surrender. You know, if we are going into surrender, okay, this is going to happen. No matter what I wish I don’t wish it’s going to happen and why not embrace it and surrender to this change and bring about a spiritual experience out of this. So various seemingly all cultures, Kimberly have festivals at the time of these shifts, either like Saki, which is near spring and now the, the fall is, and we will embrace the 10 days of goddess, the goddess that’s right now, that’s coming. So all that is to give us the inner strength to embrace this change. Unsat under to the divine. That’s why divine is constantly being highlighted and giving us that, um, uh, a chance and an opportunity to prove ourselves that our veer with the flow of the universe, we are not separate from it.

Kimberly: 05:21 Yes. And the flow of the universe is flowing. There is dynamic change. I have to tell you, Vijay, I ha I had a tough time. Um, you know, last week when, when Bobby started school, it was a lot of changes. We cut his hair for the first time he had dreadlocks and he, we had to buy clothes. He’s, you know, he’s a very free child here in the mountains. He’s naked, or he’s, he’s been in costumes since he was three, and now he’s going to school. And I had to sit back and really sit with myself. I get Jay because it brought up a lot for me like, oh, my baby is growing. And, you know, you get so used to this child, but then you also realize they are their own entity. And it is part of that flow. And I have had a spiritual experience, like you’re talking about really being okay with change. It feels like it does make you more resilient when you embrace it. It took me a minute. I cried a lot for about three days, and then I felt very peaceful.

Vaidya Jay: 06:23 That’s the mother’s heart of, you know, letting a child to fly, like almost like a bird that was sitting in the nest, very cozy and very, you know, uh, um, at peace with what is, you know, in the life. And suddenly this small in a beautiful bird is going to fly off. It’s very anxious state for, for the mother, um, father too, but mom has that closest to the child. So to have that acceptance and it is necessary both, you know, he has to move on. He has to go into this system that the society has put together from being a free bird to a,

Kimberly: 07:14 I caged for no, I’m just kidding.

Vaidya Jay: 07:17 Lack of a better word. Yes. So, but what does it do? It is necessary to learn these society, uh, you know, rules and regulations. So that’s what he’s embracing and you are coming in terms with it and then accepting, yes, he has to do this because in the universe too, that the universe has some very strong laws to follow. Um, so like they has to end with the night it’s a lot. And, and in, in basic terms, we call them as Kruta or Satya means ultimate truth.

Vaidya Jay: 08:01 So, um, a summer season has to end with a fault season. Um, there’s, there’s no perpetual 23, 65 days of summer. It’s not possible. That’s how the new nature is designed. That’s why it is represented as cyclical. Everything is cyclical. That’s the reason why, if you observe the Indian, you know, DDS or, uh, you know, gods and goddesses, they have a, a, a disc in their hand always, uh, so that this represents the cyclical order of the universe. So the Adam is spinning with the electrons. Uh, then the, the, uh, solar system is spinning. The galaxies are spinning. So there was a spinning action that is all cyclical in fashion. So that’s what we enroll into us humans as well. We have a cyclical, you know, birth to that cycle. You know, that’s the, um, uh, the ultimate truth that, uh, Vida’s and I with, uh, you know, always reminds us that nothing is permanent. It’s going to change. We embraced this, you know, evoke the divinity in you to say, this is part of my own evolution.

How change can strengthen you

Kimberly: 09:20 So it’s, you know what it feels like to me, uh, Vijay, it’s so hard not to say Dr. J but Vijay is the Sanskrit term of re you know, doctor. So it feels like to me, it’s these lessons, deep lessons in non-attachment because all of this changes and your children grow, and the seasons change where the one thing that is permanent is the true self is spirit inside of you. So I think, you know, what I felt is what I feel is all this stuff keeps changing. And then it strengthens my relationship inside, because this is the one thing you can always rely on. This is the one thing you can count on is spirit.

Vaidya Jay: 09:59 That’s right. That’s right. And then there’s no change in it, everything, but our consciousness is unchangeable and it is in that consciousness, all these changes happening.

Practical steps to support the body and mind

Kimberly: 10:11 Yeah. And so not to take them so seriously and not to get so wrapped up in it, but at the same time, which we’ll get into now take some practical steps to really support the body, the mind, um, mental health and emotional balance are so big right now, the, you know, people are really stressed. We’re going into fall. The pandemic’s been going on for like going on two years. So we want to take the practical steps, but I’m glad we started the conversation with this. At the same time, there is a decision to surrender more, to really embrace change, even though we don’t like it. But to really step up to that resiliency and know, Hey, all of this is, you know, moving sand around us, but we still have our center and we can always rely on that.

Vaidya Jay: 10:56 Yeah. So, uh, on the, the more that I want to tell all of our listeners, but this specific episode is attachment. So these stronger, the attachment from the Eagle point of view, you go point of view, like the three days of your detachment that, you know, now my baby is going to go to school. He was always with me. Now, this chain, that attachment is coming from ego point of view. So that Eagle, how do we mend this Eagle? How do we, you know, take the ego into our control? Um, rather than you go controlling us is a very interesting, you know, lesson to learn when the seasons are changing.

Kimberly: 11:41 Yes. Yeah. And what, what, how do you best deal with that Vijay? For me, it’s meditation, stillness reflection. I know when I’m still, even in the midst of change, then I can reflect. And then I start to notice those feelings and I create space and I say, oh, that’s the ego rising up and wanting to control. So for me, meditation and stillness, then I know you, you have all your J you have all your like amazing morning routine and your whole art, you know, all your whole, are you baiting program. Can you share a little bit about, um, cause I know your, your son Krishna Vijay, you’ve gone through these changes. How old is he now is in 10. Oh my God. Why did you, I’ve known you for so long. I remember when he was seven.

Vaidya Jay: 12:27 Yeah. You gave to your house and we, we did the chanting. Remember? Yeah.

Kimberly: 12:31 Yes I, oh my gosh. Yeah. So how, how do you, um, yeah, w what do you do by J what all this stuff keeps growing seasons, work, kids growing, how have you dealt with it?

Vaidya Jay: 12:43 The, the dealing with it is to be prepared. Uh, I think, um, I would way the, the routine, um, is the, the most important aspect of the preparing for this change or bending the Eagle, uh, use to know what is, um, know accepting what is in your control. Like a routine is totally under your control, right? So they have these great sages of said, okay, if things are changing, looking to what you can, you know, have total control over that is positive to your life. Um, so a simple example, you know, even every day, getting up in the morning at the same time is one thing that all our listeners can just make a simple attempt. So, um, between six and seven or between five and six, whatever time that is good waking up at that time is under my control. And it is going to help me to be healthy and feel that, you know, that is the beauty of life. There is things that are not under control. There are things that are under control, and there is wisdom to distinguish between what is in my control and what is not, and teach us that.

Kimberly: 14:08 So all the outside world is not under our control, but we control the inner state and these routines, which we can establish, aren’t going to help us navigate and stay balanced in change so we can stay stable, healthy, and resilient. Right?

Vaidya Jay: 14:27 So the teams,

How routines help us stay stable, healthy and resilient 

Kimberly: 14:28 Routines, routines,

Vaidya Jay: 14:30 The routine is something that, um, you and the longest living people have embraced. Um, because, you know, as you tell another beautiful gem of a routine here, uh, drinking, just, you know, water, hot water in the morning, right? It doesn’t take much time. You just warm up a cup of hot water, and then you drink it just drinking. That is a routine because yeah, it is some, some things that your mind is constantly, you know, um, coming in, acceptance that, okay, I do this and it feels, it makes me feel good. And I do this. This makes me feel good. So feeling good is coming from a positive affirmation, a positive affirmation is rooted in a routine that is happening on everyday basis. So that’s the way to, to say what you asked for, like, you know, how do you, you know, accept the change that my son is going through?

Vaidya Jay: 15:31 Uh, how do we accept the change? My body is going through, uh, is to go back to my routine. You know, every entity or every aspect of life as a routine son has a routine that he has 12 hours. He cannot change it. Uh, he has to go from one place to another. When we do this sunset rotations, that’s what we do. 12 sun salutations on a daily basis to salute the son who is following the routine of coming, whether I am bigger, awake, or I’m not, I’m asleep, he comes up and then he goes down. So that group,

Kimberly: 16:07 W Y U J, let me ask you a question. I get this question sometimes as well. We hear to Linda, we talk a lot about morning routine and hot water with lemon taking our SBO probiotics, drinking GGS. And that feels very stabilizing to me, you know, meditation, and I vary the ingredients in the GGS and so on and so forth. But what about, you know, we’re talking about routines being stabilized, stabilizing, but then also seasons changing. So how much do we have to vary our routines according to our you Veda? Because some of these things I do every day, like we said, the hot water lemon, the GGS, the probiotics, the meditation for me morning routine is stable throughout the year. And sometimes in the winter when it’s really cold, you know, of course I take it out, I drink it more room temperature. I still have the hot beverage first in my body, which you have also taught me about a Biga J so important to digestion, but how much, you know, of course, we’re, I know we talked about so much, uh, you know, varying the spices per season, some of our herbs, but how much of our routines do we really have to change?

Vaidya Jay: 17:13 Yeah, definitely. So the daily thing, um, that you talked about, uh, Kimberly used to center us that that’s the, the, the conscious surrender self maintaining, you know, um, aspect of ourselves. And we also embrace the change at Alma. So we need to, um, uh, change our diet. Um, you know, for that matter, uh, we have to change the type of oil that we are doing on the body. Um, the spicy clothing that we, you know, um, uh, put on all that the, that we wear, the, the aroma, the people on the body it’s been very clearly said that has to change according to the season. So, um, so the routine is the same, but the peripheral things that aren’t related to what the change in the nature or the season is influencing because same type of food is not going to be grown. Whatever was growing in summer is not going to be grown in the winter.

Vaidya Jay: 18:13 So we had to prepare the body to, uh, you know, um, get into this transition of dealing something. We were eating all kinds of raw food, um, you know, um, uh, fruits and, and things like that that is going to now, you know, going to a different type of, uh, a presentation where you start looking at, uh, preservable, you know, food, uh, like the pumpkin, the, the sweet potatoes, the yam switch, which come in and they can be preserved during the winter. So like the oils, um, which are stabilized, like the coconut oil, the Sesame, while the almond oil, the statue oil, all these oils that can be preserved. So the diet is now going towards more conserving and preserving because as we go towards the winter, we need more, um, you know, calories or more energy to continue to support the body function, because cord always takes away more energy from our right.

Keeping digestion healthy and your energy up

Kimberly: 19:18 And what about, and, and interesting, um, Vega J going towards, you know, going towards winter, but still this transition we’re in right now from summer where there’s so much Pitta energy into fall, where there’s so much Bata, which, you know, for me, my Vata gets balanced. I think a lot of people do. That’s like, you know, anxiety, spaciness, constipation, all of that. So how do we, you know, that’s great to say about the preserving of foods, what, um, herbs and spices can support us in this transition, you know, keep our digestion healthy or energy up. Yeah.

Vaidya Jay: 19:52 You got the two very vital points in there. So the first thing is what happens to all that heat that the body has, right? But then because of the summer, we say that it needs to be eliminated. The all that happens is it comes to the gut. So the gut is fully taxed because all these heat toxins, which we call us pick the, in excess, has come into the gut and it’s now stationed in the gut, right. We think about, okay, what do I do? I need to purge? So there are many methods of purging. You want to, your beautiful green detox drink can purge out everything, right. Uh, or otherwise we can use, uh, to the filler, which is, you know, taking these three fruits in the powder form, which helps to purge as well. So we take a larger dose every three days, or every five days, you can take maybe four capsules to six capsules of three Philip, uh, powder CA uh, made into capsules, and then you swallow them and then dark helps to purge it down. And if people are not so keen about milk, make a bigger purse, they can go into a fruit based thing like ma made out of prunes, made out of reasons and made out of, uh, some amount of either, um, you know, either use castor oil to purge out, or even they can use the same Truffula along with the fruit, you know, uh, the pureed fruit. So,

Kimberly: 21:22 So what you’re saying, Dr. J I’m sorry, I didn’t tell you when you talk about purging is to really, um, almost like a cleanse, like you want to have a lot of bowel movements. Right. But we also have our Detoxy formula. I did J which is really great for that. It’s basically oxygen magnesium, vitamin C. So we, just, whatever we’re doing, um, is that, is that an extended period where you just want to make sure you’re eliminating a lot, or is it like you do it for a few days to get rid of all the summer heat? How does that work?

Vaidya Jay: 21:52 You can get off three weeks is what it’s like. People can, our listeners can say, okay, this next three weeks, I’m going to use the time to purge myself, eat very light plant based diet. And every night they will make this, uh, you know, um, uh, concoction like some, maybe half a cup of reasons, uh, not half a cup of cold water, a couple of reasons, and a couple of hours and approves cooked in water when they become soft, puree it, and then take that with two capsules of thrift flour or the magnesium supplement that you have the Detoxy that can be taken as well. So you just drink it and then it’ll start moving everything. So the idea used to bind things which are now, you know, um, uh, becoming stagnant in the colon, in the lining of the gut, in the intestines, they’re getting stagnant and they’re they’re swelling. So you want to bring your, um, you know, the detox or the purging to, you know, um, buying these heat toxins on, then eliminated out.

What causes aging

Kimberly: 22:58 Is it true Dr. Jay, that if we keep the heat in our body, that is a major cause of aging,

Vaidya Jay: 23:05 Correct. So two things happen when the heat is stabbed inside, it’ll turn into inflammation. Then the second thing it also does is it will go towards the skin. Once it is in the gut. The second thing it will do is shift from the gut through the lymphatic system. It comes towards the skin

Kimberly: 23:21 And then ages the skin

Vaidya Jay: 23:25 Faster, the collagen and elastin fibers that get more, um, you know, uh, dissolved or broken down because there’s more, uh, inflammation in the skin.

Kimberly: 23:35 So we really have to move this Pitta energy. There was otherwise it’s going to cause a lot of it. Yeah.

Vaidya Jay: 23:42 Right. And then also drinking teas, like you were saying, what are the spices like the spices, coriander tea, or camomile tea corium and even the, um, coconut water is a great source of, you know, taking the heat. So you’re taking the heat either from bowel or through urine, right. So that’s the two ways of eliminating it. So, um, all the, you know, uh, nice, um, cooling, uh, piece will be great. So camel meal, uh, chrysanthemum, um, you know, even, um, you know, uh, licorice tea, things like that could be very good to move things out. And then if you’re making a load meal or something in the season, uh, using cardamom on the, on the oatmeal, um, will be a great spice choice to use. Cardamom is very automatic and very, you know, uh, palatable type of, uh, spice, which can be sprinkled on the oatmeal and the NIBIN, um, things like that, you know, improved one or two of them during the day, so that your heat talks and inside the body is slowly eliminated a new collapsed.

Kimberly: 24:48 So we focus on balancing the Pitta and the heat before we even think about combating the Vata imbalance for fall. This is like the precursor. This is the transition that has to happen.

Vaidya Jay: 25:01 And then what happens is if we don’t pay attention to all the heat that is accumulated, we’ll take the, the water, the unstable windy energy that is there in the body. And it will bring the skin to much more challenging situation where it becomes even dry and cracked. So the skin will start

Kimberly: 25:19 And also the hair, the hair Vijay, your hair can get really dry that’s because that heat has built up and we haven’t moved.

Vaidya Jay: 25:27 Right. Right. So once this foraging is done, then you go back to the healthy fats. So include the coconut oil or avocados, or even like hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, the things like that, which is going towards, because all the festivals that happen in this season are all using Sesame seeds, you know, uh, uh, dishes, uh, or peanut dishes, things like that, where you automatically, um, you know, eat these, um, because of festivity or because of, you know, like a festival reasons, religious reasons, but you’re embracing a health concept right away when you’re eating all of these, uh, you know, types of food,

Detoxing and what you should know

Kimberly: 26:11 Well, Vijay for someone listening to this and they’re like, okay, I’m, you know, taking Detoxy or, you know, having whatever I’m taking in them pooping a lot more. How do, how does one know when they’re ready to move out of the purging stage when the pit does left and they can move into healthy fat, you know, preparing for Vata season? Is it an intuitive thing or is this, are you beta just lay out a certain timeframe for everybody?

Vaidya Jay: 26:37 Yeah. So it would be a good question. Um, so those who are doing this type of a three weeks detox, um, you know, I would start doing it once every third day. So by three weeks you will have, uh, about, you know, uh, close to eight or nine of these, you know, drinks are purchase that they are what, bring them to maybe, um, two bottle moments or three bottle moments of project. So that is ideal for anybody type physically, if you feel that you’re going more than three times in the morning after taking this, then you need to cut it down to maybe once a week. Right?

Kimberly: 27:21 Okay.

Vaidya Jay: 27:22 So between the two experiences that we will have, and then the, once you, once the, um, symptoms, you, your subjective symptoms, what you feel is you will feel light. You will feel your body is, um, you know, much more, um, uh, you know, less irritated. And, uh, when you go to the bowel moments, uh, the area, uh, the bottle moment after the bottle moment will not feel that there is irritation. All these signs you will look at, and then you say, okay, I’m done. I did it three weeks, as I suggested is the best period to do either you going once a week or twice a week,

Kimberly: 28:02 Is that three weeks of transition recommended for each of the seasons Vijay J like winter to spring, spring to summer, summer to fall,

Vaidya Jay: 28:11 You all meet in the fall. We purge because now that the heat talks and is accumulating, but in spring, we do something different. Yeah. We’ll talk

Kimberly: 28:21 About that.

Vaidya Jay: 28:24 We do that for over in springboard. We want to do that will be the suspense.

Kimberly: 28:30 So, you know, going back, it’s interesting that he builds up and we do get a fair amount of questions about people having issues with their hair, but hair falling out hair getting really dry is this is a sign then of pizza imbalance, but couldn’t, it also be Vata too.

Vaidya Jay: 28:48 Yeah. So pick the one is the one which Kim’s out the hair and then graze the hair faster, but what makes it dry in ritual? Right. So both of these are happening in this season, right? So what we want to tell other businesses that a simple solution is just, you know, oiling the hair, even putting on the coconut oil on the hair is very beneficial. Second thing is that if they have some issues going on with a bled, then they have like some people who are anemic will become, the anemia becomes more pronounced with, we go towards the fall season. So they have to think about how can I, how can they support are their support, their blood, you know, nourishment like pomegranates or grapes or OSI Berry things that have, you know, large quantities of iron in them will be a good choice to make, to support the hair. So I think the hair, and then drinking something that supports the blood.

Kimberly: 29:48 So you said, I say, ye is great for the blood pomegranates, all these like red, or kind of what else is, what else from like a savory standpoint, like, you know, like in the rice vegetable category is great for the hair.

Vaidya Jay: 30:04 Um, the, the most of the dark vegetables are great for the hair. Um, you think about kale, chard, Swiss, chard, et cetera, and collard greens, they all benefit the hair. Um, but the, the most important thing is to cook in iron skillets, uh, or iron, you know, um, uh, pots and pans once a week or twice a week, because I had an, is supposed to be the best tonic for the hair. So in these utensils is making sure that you’re nourishing your hair.

Kimberly: 30:42 Yeah. And, and sometimes taking iron supplements can be tricky. You know, there’s a relationship with calcium, like other things. So it’s better to get the iron naturally, you can get it from black beans as well, lots of iron and all kinds of like Sesame seeds and tahini and

Vaidya Jay: 31:01 Right. And, and, you know, like the, the business resilient net, for example, have, um, you know, large quantities of selenium and go, and, and I don’t, um, millet finger millet, the black mullet that, you know, millets have a large quantity of iron in them, also calcium. So people who want to help their hair should have, um, you know, millets, that’s one of the things that I’ve seen, people who live in the land where millet is the most dominant green, then never have hair. Never

Kimberly: 31:35 Really. But I thought, remember when we were doing that class, um, which one was it by DJ? It was like, I think it was, it was a class where we, it was one of the nutrition classes that we took, but I loved all our classes and there was one on grain and it was out millet takes a lot of water or something. So it’s like a dryer. Like it’s dry though.

Vaidya Jay: 31:55 This may be a little higher concept for all our listeners, but for iron, with a bone is responsible for hair health. So the bone health, um, has to be nourished. Um, so, uh, in, in our system, you say that you have, the bone is dry. Bone is healthy, that the here becomes long and healthy as well. So the dry quality of millet is necessary for both as well as for the blend.

Kimberly: 32:25 Wow. Yeah. Cause you said blood is related to hair health, but bone too. So that means calcium is really important

Vaidya Jay: 32:34 And calcium are both present in the millet.

Kimberly: 32:38 Wow.

Vaidya Jay: 32:39 Okay. That’s really helpful. Helpful. I’m laughing because, um, I’m so excited if I, to J you know, my next book is coming out in January and, you know, I just got galleys. I was looking at them and I actually feature you in the vitality chapter, right. The chapter about really like amplifying our life force. And one thing about you Vijay, and I know we’re not taking a video of this right now, but you have jet black hair. You don’t have any gray and tell us, oh

Dissipating the Pitta from your practices

Kimberly: 33:13 My gosh. But, but do you think it’s, um, I mean, it’s so many things, isn’t it, it’s like you’re eating this way. You’re eating the iron and the calcium, we’re eating the millet, but also you meditate so much Vijay, you have your routines, so you you’re constantly dissipating the Pitta from your practices. So do you think that’s one of the reasons your hair doesn’t get great is because you don’t have that stress builds up and that when people say, oh, the gray hair is caused by stress, which really is that Pitta, isn’t it built up

Vaidya Jay: 33:46 You embody or practice, and then the practice will do it for you. You don’t have to put any special efforts because it becomes part of you, you embrace every aspect of your living to promoting your own health. So I don’t put a special effort. I in really, like my routine is routine. I don’t miss out on my routine on a daily basis. I do it every day, no matter what. So, um, that I think is what our listeners have to slowly come to terms with. Like, and I was starting, we had this conversation before, as well, drinking the hot water, which you have been promoting for a long time to all our listeners is this first step into the routine. And then you will start noticing that it constructively impacts your aging process. Um, anything special. You don’t have to take a bunch of supplements. You don’t have to do that. You have to just take one or two steps towards this routine that you want to embrace. And then there comes your anti-aging process.

Kimberly: 34:50 That’s right. And I will say by today, it’s funny. I get some DMS sometimes on Instagram being like, what, um, what hair color do you use? Your hair looks so natural to cover grays. And I said, I’ve never colored my hair once. You know, like, I know some people start early, like in their twenties, there’s a genetic component. But to your point, I just feel like, um, you know, meditation is huge for me. It’s like my anchor. That is my ultimate anchor. And then I do these practices. I eat whole foods. I focus on digestion. I take our probiotics and detox. See, I don’t take a lot of supplements, but a few things. Um, and you’re right. Like, I just feel like things work pretty well.

Vaidya Jay: 35:30 They come on, the universal forces will start working with you. You’re not going to universal forces. So the sun will give you the amount of energy that you need. The wind will facilitate your breathing and, and your, um, uh, energy levels, uh, the, the fluids and the water and the ocean will reflect on you. So it’s, it’s a beautiful way of being one with the surrounding. That’s what I feel that is the most powerful way of being that you’re not alone, that everything around you belong to that mountain, you belong to the ocean, you belong to this, you know, breeze. It’s all you. So that’s what you embrace.

Kimberly: 36:12 Wow. So beautiful. So we embrace this balance right now. There’s a lot of heat cooling spices. And then after the purging time has done, you said healthy fats. And then what are those spices? A little bit later in the fall when we want to like help with Vata?

Vaidya Jay: 36:30 Yeah. Like nutmeg nutmeg. Yup. So let me see. Then we have cumin fennel.

Kimberly: 36:44 Isn’t fennel cooling. Isn’t a warming. Fennel is warming. And so why would you have coriander in the fall?

Vaidya Jay: 36:54 You’ll still see the pit, the, when it increases, it goes like a bell curve. It increases like that. It goes, and then it gradually tapers down. So you want to make sure that it completely subsides in the body without leaving any traces.

Kimberly: 37:10 So

Vaidya Jay: 37:10 We’ll do a little bit of coriander, but remaining will be all spices that move the gut efficiently downwards

Kimberly: 37:19 And, you know, get J when we did do our argue Vedic, cooking class, what I loved about it, everything was so delicious, but it’s really like, you know, the, the oils, the right vegetables and grains, and then the spices, like, it’s pretty like simple. We can teach people to cook simply, but it’s really delicious. Yeah.

Vaidya Jay: 37:38 So the secret is bringing these spices based on the season. Your staples are according to the season as well. Like you’re, you know, you will choose the vegetables from the garden or from the, you know, your farmer’s markets, whatever is grown. And then back to the farmer’s market is best for you to, you know, break down and assimilate and then the spices, or according to the season, you add them so that whatever you’re eating is appropriated into your body, into your tissues.

Kimberly: 38:07 Right, right, right. But it’s, it’s, it’s simple. And that’s how I like to eat some of these recipes with like 20 things. And then you’re baking.

Vaidya Jay: 38:15 But I don’t think the side where the cooking at all exalts brand is not either way the cooking. I think it needs to be as simple and very quick and fresh as possible. Yeah.

Kimberly: 38:28 Most meals we make, Dr. J are like on, under, I say 10 minutes. Yeah.

Vaidya Jay: 38:35 You only think time that takes it to cook the grain or cook the lentils or something, but remaining is all like just quick fix

Kimberly: 38:42 One day, Vijay. You and I are going to come out with an [inaudible], um, cooking course or something like seasonal. That’d be really wonderful.

Vaidya Jay: 38:51 That’s my heart let’s do that. Our listeners will be very,

Kimberly: 38:55 I think that’s a wonderful guide because, um, I just feel like in this day and age too, people are so busy and, you know, then it’s like, what do I make for dinner? And then it gets like, oh my gosh, you get overwhelmed. And then people end up getting takeout or something, you know,

Vaidya Jay: 39:10 The planning is bigger than you would cook it, like, okay. So it defeats the purpose. You should be able to see what you have in your cabinet and should be able to create a quick meal for yourself.

Kimberly: 39:21 Yeah. Yeah. And, and, and, and have that stock get the right spices, but then ultimately you just have it there. Um, and you can go with that. Well, um, I feel like I could talk to you forever and ever and ever. Um, is there anything else you want to add about this period? And, uh, it’s also a hair tonic and people who are having a challenges with their hair can do the flip dial, but bring the edge, uh, you know, either powder as a tea or a capsule. And at the time we have what is called as healthy hair capsules, which contains bring that, bring that as, as one of the main major ingredients. And, um, yeah, these tonic that we mostly, they are adaptogenics, they adopt you to the next season. So ashwagandha [inaudible], um, Alma lucky, uh, even the mock-up that we, you know, so-called market that is, you know, in famous great tonic to take in the season. So

Difference between powdered herbs and capsules

Kimberly: 41:42 Those wonderful, wonderful choices by DJ, can you explain a little bit quickly about the difference between taking the herbs in a powder form? Like I’ve always put them in hot water and drank them versus taking them in a capsule, like to maximize the benefit. Should we drink something hot after the capsules? Or what are you recommending?

Vaidya Jay: 42:02 Yeah, the T so the earth is also very important in either because the taste is directly related to the emotions. So, you know, we have like, I have a bitter taste or something like that, you know? So the bitterness is, are a piece that is not all hurts a bitter, but some the tastes that is bound to the herb is very good for working with the mind, whereas the capsules, how important seeing them. So when you take it, drink anything warm than it helps to break down the, her much better. So what you do is if you’re taking the powder, you take it, take it as a tea, you dissolve it in hot water, and then just shut it down. Or when you take the capsule, drink it with something warm, even a warm tea, or even hot water or hot almond milk, something like that to just, you know, activate the Hertz. Okay.

Kimberly: 42:58 So as long as we add that heat element, the capsules, which are so convenient, it’s

Vaidya Jay: 43:04 Going to be okay. Yeah. Oh,

Kimberly: 43:05 Wow. And sometimes like, um, how long should someone see the effects of the herbs? Like it’s subtle, right? It can feel like, you know, self checking in.

Vaidya Jay: 43:17 So they, they’re why you break in a way to align your body towards the, the benefit that we are looking at. Ideally, I would say anywhere between three weeks to five weeks is when their effect gradually goes from lymphatic system to blood, to the muscle, to the fact, the bone, the bone marrow and the practice. So it has to reach all these levels to give you a bad body.

Kimberly: 43:43 Mm Hmm. Okay. Yeah. So we just keep taking them just like anything else. We take probiotics every day. You trust that it’s starting to rebuild your gut health, take digestive enzymes, it’s helping to break down your food.
