Kimberly: 00:02 Hi loves and welcome to our Monday solocast, where I’m so excited to share some really practical tools and tips that you can incorporate into your own life. Starting right now in this spring, focusing on spring foods and practices to increase your vitality and your energy. So it’s really important that we take a look at how we’re eating, how we’re living, what practices that we’re incorporating into our lives seasonally, just the way that we change our clothes seasonally, just in the way that we may clean out drawer or change our wardrobe, put things in closets, get new things out. And so it is with food. And if we don’t adapt our food and our practices, what happens is we can develop more stagnation in our bodies. Our energy can starts to go down and we just don’t feel as full of life, which is really what vitality is about in contrast, when we shift and move and literally go with the flow of nature, we benefit tremendously.
Kimberly: 01:14 And this is because we are part of nature. The Ayurvedic theory of PCHA Maha, BTA states that the five elements in nature are the five elements that comprise our body. So air space, earth, water, and fire. And so this of course constitutes different components of nature. It’s not always so literal, but because there is a predominance of certain elements in certain seasons, we need to reflect that that’s happening inside of us. So for instance, there’s an excess of Pitta of heat that may accumulate in the summer by August. And so in order to maintain our health, our energy, our immunity, and so on, we wanna recognize that and we want to make shifts in our own lifestyle. And in this way we feel our best long term. So today we’re going to be talking about spring because here we are in the middle of spring and we have a couple more weeks of spring until we start to move into summer. And so right here, right now, we really wanna strengthen and fortify our bodies and elevate our vitality. So as I said, we just continue to feel our very best, our most clear abundant in energy and life alert, joyful and peaceful and so on.

Her words and knowledge have given me the tools that helped me get through some really tough moments in my life while also giving me understanding and insight into why I feel and react the way I do so I can dive deep into myself and change from the inside out. She’s currently better than ever so raw and vulnerable and genuine. Um, Weemajesticfingers wherever you are in the world. I send you so much love.
Kimberly: 03:56 I have my hands on my heart right now, and it really means so much to me to be connected in this way. And lastly, I’ll say to please recommend the show to share it with a simple screenshot or a link to anyone that you think would benefit back to one of our core principles here at so Luna and in our community is generosity in sharing, which is really how I started this whole thing with just wanting to share my ideas and practices that had been helping me so much through a free blog.
Kimberly: 05:11 And so that continues to this day more than 10 years later, really just wanting to get the information out. And so we all have that power to spread love, to spread light. So I encourage you to, to share our podcast with anyone that you think would benefit.
Get Your Copy Of YOU ARE MORE
Kimberly: And lastly, I’ll mention that we do have our new book baby out called You Are More More Than You Think You Are – Practical Enlightenment For Everyday Life. It’s been out now for a few months. So please be sure to pick up your copy online or at your local bookstore, anywhere that you like to source books. And this is really another practical, very practical tool I have for you in breaking down this process of this three part process and creating your best life, which is part one removing blocks from your life. Getting past the blocks that are there, that maybe we don’t understand are holding us back, especially fear, and how fear can, can be this underlying energy, driving us, pushing our decisions and not always in the best way. And then part two is learning to embody your own power and the qualities that are inside you as the true self, including honing your intuition, which is a very important guide in life, the most important guide, and also tapping into inner peace and so on. And then part three is really about creating. So the longest chapter in the book is you are a creator. We also talk about abundance and magnetism. And so what I have found in so many people that have come to me over the years that are struggling to create the abundance that they want or the career that they want, or the love that they want, or whatever it is is that most people skip to part three, they just go straight to creating and they don’t first do some work in removing the blocks and also tapping into that power and their uniqueness first.
Kimberly: 07:06 So when we don’t do that first, we do get limited results and we get frustrated and all of that. So this is the process that’s helped me very much, and I offer it to you, you know, the, just the, um, full sharing, full love. So please check it out again, wherever books are sold.
Solocast: 6 Food Practices to Elevate your Vitality and Energy for Spring
Kimberly: Okay. So all that being said, let’s get into our topic today, which is food and practices around elevating your vitality and your energy. So first I wanna talk a little bit about what vitality really is. And so in some of the ancient texts of India and Neves, they talk about vitality as being linked to Taja or fire. And if you reduce that down, it’s really about light. So what this means is when there is higher levels of light inside of you, or we could also say life force PR, there is more vitality, there is a brightness in your eyes, there is more of a glow to your skin, literally, and there’s this sort of attractive energy around you, little spring in your step, you just sort of feel more confident and you certainly have more energy. And there’s just more of this flow around you. So vitality, isn’t something that can be quantified into numbers. It’s not able to be deduced down to the number on the scale, or, you know, how much, you know, how many calories you’re eating. It’s not as reductionist as that. And I wanna emphasize this because I think in society, there’s a lot of confusion around wellness
Kimberly: 08:54 And around what true health is. And so when it comes to vitality, this is about tuning into your own intuitive, just power about energy in general, what is vitality, you know, when you really tune into yourself, when you feel more alive and also times when you may feel a bit more dull. And so one of the contributing factors to that, which is of course is multifactorial, is when we don’t make the best shifts in our diet and our lifestyle. And today we’re gonna be focusing on, on food mainly because that is our first cornerstone here at Solluna, it’s food, body, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual growth. And they all contribute immensely to vitality, but I wanted to start with something really tangible. They are not sequential. They are not in a hierarchy. You know, if anything, the spiritual one about self connection is definitely the, the highest goal that the most important of all.
Kimberly: 09:58 But today I wanna talk about the practicality of shifting your foods. Because as I mentioned earlier, when we do this, it means that we are aligning to nature. What is going on in the greater context, in the greater world and the greater nature around us. And that is so important that we don’t ignore that. We don’t pretend it’s not there because it only depletes us. It doesn’t serve us. And it certainly makes us feel more lethargic, more. Slothful not in our fullest power, not in our fullest vitality, and also, you know, potentially restless and anxious. So we need to understand that in order to be our most naturally healthy, have our natural potential of radiance and vitality, we want to align with nature. So I have five key foods and tips here that I would like to offer you. And these are ones that, you know, some may resonate more than others.
Practice Tip #1: Incorporating sprouts
Kimberly: 11:03 Some you may decide to incorporate some, maybe you like all of them, but I wanna offer them here as in the space of just, you know, seeing that it’s emphasizing, it’s not all or nothing. These are just ones that are really particularly beneficial to be aware of at this time. So number one is incorporating sprouts and I love sprouts. If there’s one food I can say to you that I tried to eat every single day, an actual food, besides of course drinking the glow and green smoothie, it would be sprouts. And in particular broccoli sprouts. So we’re at the farmer’s market or regular market like yesterday, we were at sprouts, the organic, largely organic grocery store. I always see if there are broccoli sprouts and I will always buy them. I will always find an extra use for them. So remember what we were saying about the light thatt us.
Kimberly: 12:05 So sprouts in particular, all plant foods basically have this way of, to varying degrees of holding light energy inside of them, which is through this process known as photosynthesis, where they’re able to pull the sun energy and convert it into actual energy. And then we as humans ingest that. So we’re taking in that, that light energy. So it’s very close to source. It’s very close to the light, and this is different of course, than eating animal products or foods that are higher up the food chain, because it means that there is those steps in between, and it’s not as direct. So it’s sort of like consuming an EPA D HHA, LG for obtaining that healthy fat, especially when you’re pregnant versus eating salmon or fish, which you can also obtain some of these healthy fats from, but it’s not the direct source. So I believe whenever we can go to the direct source, it’s the most pure, it’s the least contaminated in that foods that go up the food chain.
Kimberly: 13:14 Bioaccumulate more toxins. Now, sprouts are very special because not only are they so close to that light source, which is gonna supply us with a great amount of vitality, but they’re the babies though, the baby plant foods. And when I look at my son, Moses, now who’s almost two and the rapid levels of growth and just credible energy flowing through his body and flowing through his system. We realize that it’s very important to consume these baby foods so that we are obtaining this maximum Prada life force and energy in Western measurement terms, broccoli sprouts have 50 times some of the nutrients, some of the antioxidants of mature broccoli. So this is also verified and measured in Western science as well. Meaning these sprouts are so incredibly concentrated and powerful. Now don’t get me wrong. We also ingest regular broccoli at our house and we have vegetables for the kids and things like that. But if our goal is vitality, I recommend trying to work in sprouts regularly, as I do now in the past, I’ve, you know, talked about sprouts for many years and people have brought up contamination issues and, you know, cleanliness issues. So of course, if you are, especially if you’re not growing your own sprouts, and I have to say at this point in life, I am not as a very busy mom working mom,
Kimberly: 14:50 But I wash them really well. And you can get around that by just really good hygiene and washing practices. I’ve, you know, personally never had an issue. And the way that I incorporate sprouts is number one in my daily rap that I have almost every day, my gluten free avocado and hummus and tomato wrap and some different things I put in there. I put a huge amount of sprouts, and sometimes I toss them into our salads. Although I’m a little careful when the kids are eating the salads, because the broccoli sprouts can be a little bit bitter for them. I also put it on soup, which I often eat and stew. So I just throw it right on top of pretty much whatever I’m eating. They’re powerful. So if you can’t get broccoli sprouts, and sometimes I can’t, they’re not always at the store. There’s other ones that are great, like Clover sprouts.
Practice Tip #2: Colorful fruit
Kimberly: 15:42 And so see what’s out there, see what you can source and you can access. But it is my, one of my top vitality foods. Number two is colorful fruit. So in the same way, that vitality is really about light and increasing the light inside of you color. And the full spectrum of color is really the light spectrum here in a physical form. So similarly to crystals, which have been in the earth, grown in the earth for millions and millions of years, they say that the, the quarts particularly is the, is that structure, that uncorrupted structure, that’s a, that has a similar similarity to human fascia, except human fascia can get clogged. It can get thrown off by dehydration and stress and so on, but color not to get off track. <laugh> color is different forms of light. And so when we eat this broad range, this rainbow spectrum of fruit, what happens is that we are putting that into our bodies and we benefit tremendously.
Kimberly: 16:51 So it’s literally vitality. The yogis have always taught that fruit is the highest Prana the highest vibration food. And this is again beyond numbers, beyond just protein and carves and calories and fat and so on, but about vibration. And so look in nature and you see in the garden, you go into a jungle or forest and you would see that the highest pinnacles in nature are the flowers. And then often in a lot of different trees. And I see this here in my own yard, the flowers give way to the fruit. So we can say that the fruit is the ultimate. The fruit is imparting this sun energy, this light, this beautiful, specific to each one, these specific properties to us when we eat them. And so it’s something that we really want to take advantage of. And so this spring, I encourage you to go to your farmer’s market or your market, and just see what is really colorful right now.
Kimberly:: 17:58 We have our apricot tree in full effect. So there’s a lot of this beautiful orange, red, yellow, assertive colors going on that are similar to the Solluna colors, which of course is inspired by the sun. Solluna means sun and moon. So we honor the darkness as well, but in particular, the branding, our colors are based on the, on the sun, on the, the real light of spirit coming through directly. And so I am just eating these colors, which I wasn’t really eating so much of even a few months ago. And so in the natural progression of seasons and seasonality, we see that the spring follows the winter and in winter, we tend to eat more comfort foods. We definitely tend to eat more fat and more heavy. So part of the energy of fruit and the colors is to blast out stagnation and to replace it with more freshness and more life force.
Kimberly: 19:02 And that is why in Ayurveda, it’s known that spring is the season for raw food. It’s the most important season to eat raw food. And that of course includes raw fruit. So please do see what’s out there in your area and raw fruit, colorful fruit is a top top vitality food.
Practice Tip #3: Turmeric
Kimberly: Number three is turmeric is a really wonderful spring spice and herb to add into your cooking. And so there’s many ways to incorporate it. We’ll talk about that in a moment, but one of the ways, or some of the ways that it’s powerful for spring is that some of this congestion can build up in the body, either in the respiratory tract, in the lymph system, you may have spring allergies. And so part of why tumor is such a powerful compound, powerful food. It’s, it’s a herb form. If you haven’t seen it before.
Kimberly: 20:07 And it’s sort of like ginger, it’s a little bit different in the shape, but it’s, you know, it has that sort of look of ginger if you’ve never seen it whole, and it too, when you grind it down, you put it in a powdered form. It has that really bright, bright, yellow color. And it’s so powerful in it’s anti-inflammatory properties and it’s antibacterial properties. So as we are transitioning and clearing out a lot from winter, which is why so many people tend to get sick in the spring and in between the seasons is that it has this very powerful cleansing ability. And so I encourage you to incorporate it in your, in kitcheree in one pot, stews and meals. I am inspired to add a new Kitie recipe, which I will do soon because I make it so often and I make it in different ways.
Kimberly:21:00 So I’ll offer that as well. It is definitely in my kitcheree. It is in, uh, you can put it in a golden milk that you can make for yourself in the evenings. There’s many different ways to make golden milk. You could start with something like Ric and black pepper and, um, even cinnamon or ginger powder. There’s many different ways to make golden milk, but you can use it in elixir and teas as well. You can use it in smoothies. I wouldn’t put it in the glow and green smoothie. I keep that really pure <laugh>, but other smoothies, you could incorporate it certainly. And you could check out our whole repertoire smoothies over at mysolluna.com. So these are some of my favorite ways to incorporate Ric. Remember that it is an herb, it’s gonna be a little bit bitter. So you wanna, in order to make it not flavor dominant, where it takes over, you wanna mix it with other things.
Kimberly: 21:58 So for instance, in the kitcheree, there is salt, there is coconut oils that healthy fat there’s black pepper, and this is the one I’m making of late. There’s a lot of Cuan. So there’s a balance. It’s not just gonna taste like CU, uh, Ric itself, which can be kind of earthy. Okay. So I’m just rewarding you. We wanna add that beautiful synergy, and then it’s something that we want to go back to and incorporate for the long term.
Practice Tip #4: Detoxy
And then my fourth practice food practice, when being a little broad here is Detoxy, which I bring up. This is one of our Solluna supplements, and I’m someone that doesn’t take a lot of supplements. And I certainly do not recommend taking a lot of supplements, but you can be sure that when I talk about something, when I create something, when I offer something to you, it is because I very, very much believe in it.
Kimberly: 22:52 And it has been life changing for me, and I really do get behind it. And so Detoxy is important for spring. It’s related to the food as well, because it’s clean, it’s helping to cleanse. It’s helping to move excess waste and Keate to heavy acids and toxins and move them out of the body in a form that is not laxative. It is not harsh. It is not habit forming. It’s basically oxygen with stable vitamin C and then also magnesium, which helps to relax the colon literally. So that combination is incredibly anti-aging because it’s removing things that are not meant to be there that can sit in your body and clog it, and also create millions of free radicals and just degrade your organ functionality and dirty the blood, which you know, is 98% goes through your colon. It’s redistributed. And when there’s, you know, just this reduction of space and there’s less oxygen, your body does, your skin will reflect this.
Kimberly: 23:57 It will age more quickly. So spring is also the season for Panchakarma in Ayurveda, it is the season for putting more emphasis on detoxification. So it’s really, really important that we support detox detoxification in all the different ways. And that does include taking detox. So I’ve mentioned you before. My personal practice is to take it a few times a week, or when I’m traveling, I take it every day. And right now in spring, I am taking it pretty much every day. And that is because that this is the natural rhythm of helping your body release more from winter. So when we are looking at the practices and the foods for this season, it’s also based on balancing the previous season so that we stay in harmony through the whole year.
Kimberly: 24:51 So check it out, we’ll add some links. You can check it out for yourself. And if you are in detox, I recommend, you know, this is a beautiful, wonderful thing for you to stay on long term as I do, because toxins are always accumulating and her bodies can always unfortunately get out of balance.
Practice Tip #5: Tulsi (holy basil)
Kimberly: So the next practice, 1, 2, 3, oh, there’s six <laugh>. I said five, sorry. Cause I was like, wait a minute on my notes here. I have two more. I wanna talk about, so there’s actually six, the next one, the fifth one is Tulsi. And this is something that I personally love to ingest in a tea form, although you, there are other ways to incorporate Tulsi which is known as holy basil, and this is a wonderful adaptogenic plant. And I actually plant on growing it in Hawaii on our farm. I learned from our permaculture farmer consultant, Chris shanks, that holy basil actually grows very well in Hawaii.
Kimberly: 25:50 So you can be sure that I wanna grow my own. Anyways, as an adaptogen, it’s really helping to boost our immunity. It’s helping us to deal with, um, stress in a diff in different ways in Ayurveda it’s referred to as the queen of herbs. And so this also helps to remove toxins from our body. It’s just a really wonderful way to support our vitality, which can be depleted by reacting too much. And the stress response and our nervous system being out of whack, which of course leads to a cascade of issues in our hormones and so on and so forth. So it’s also said to be really great for encouraging mental wellbeing and boosting energy levels. So I like to drink Tulsi in the tea form, and it just feels like a really nice way to slow down and know that I’m providing something really nice for myself by sipping on this tea.
Kimberly: 26:52 Um, sometimes I combine it with journaling and it just feels like for me, it’s an part of my evening practice. I do mix my evening elixirs but this to C tea is definitely in the mix. And it’s just a really nice way to downgrade the nervous system come into harmony and balance, which is a really important part of vitality. If we are always go, go go. Then we do deplete ourselves. And of course we are not gonna be in our full radiance and our full vitality, which is, which is the goal.
Practice Tip #6: Drinking plenty of room temperature water
Kimberly: And so the last and sixth practice that I wanna mention here is simple but powerful. And one that I wanna reiterate is so important, and that is drinking plenty and plenty of room temperature, water. When our bodies are chronically dehydrated, and I’m gonna be doing a Thursday, Q&A dedicated post to this soon because I’ve had a lot of revelations lately about water.
Kimberly: 27:52 Our organs do not function as well, and we do not detox as well, which means our bodies are holding onto waste. And we don’t have as much light cuz remember light and oxygen flourishes when there’s more space. And I’ve always said this from the beginning and even in the beauty detox solution, my first book, it’s not just what we’re putting in, but what we’re removing from the diet, from our lifestyle and literally helping to flush out through plenty of water. So water is this element. It’s literally one of the elements and water helps to keep everything in, in balance through the hydration. Hydration is key to optimal functionality. So there’s a lot trying to come out of your body, through your limb system, as we come into spring through your colon, through, you know, your skin in general, all of it. And so the more we can drink water, the more we support this process and we support the light inside of us.
Kimberly: 28:58 So remember that we play with the elements, we work with the elements seasonality in our focus because it is the elements that really do create that balance in our bodies. We wanna understand it on that fundamental level and not just on this, you know, Western level of numbers. And this is what this diet says I’m supposed to eat. And this is how I can biohack my way into eating less carbs or whatever it is. It really goes down to energy. It comes down to elements. And so water, I wanted to bring up as our last core practice here is a really powerful way of incorporating this balance. And t’s really, really wonderful. And it just woo. I can just feel out my own body now that I’ve been adding, you know, with, with more of a focus on water, I just feel really good this spring. And I know that’s a contributing factor.
In Closing
Kimberly: 29:41 So there you go, uh, increasing vitality and energy the spring through our food practices and increasing the light energy in your body. Number one sprouts, particularly broccoli sprouts, number two, colorful fruit, which holds different spectrums of the light. Number three, turmeric, number four, taking Detoxy to support your overall body and it’s releasing of what does not serve to make space for what does serve number five Tulsi and I personally love Tulsi and number six, lots and lots of water. So please check out the show notes over at mysolluna.com for more information and links to articles, podcasts, meditations, so on and so forth that can really support you further in your journey.
Kimberly: 30:43 I encourage you to also keep the questions coming, which I answer in our Thursday show. And now going forward, they’re gonna be based around a cornerstone a week and they’re going to be very actionable. So it’s gonna be one question per week. And the rest is really just focusing on action, steps and tips so that you can integrate the cornerstone and it’s balanced more deeply into your life and sending you so much love. I hope you enjoyed our show. Please keep the feedback coming. Please stay connected to me. I’m also on social media at _Kimberly Snyder. I’ll see you back here soon. Namaste, peace and love.
