Kimberly: The more of us that take these steps forward, the more we can create positive benefits. So please, please share the show with anyone that you can think of. That’s open to this because it is really important that we come together as a community, as the large family of, um, humanity to really create as healthy a space as possible for each other, for our families, for future generations, for all of the animals, all the plants, all of life here on our one and only beautiful home in this, in this plane of existence.

Kimberly: Remember that my new book is out. Now you can pick it up. Wherever books are sold online or to your local bookshop called you are more than you think you are. And it’s a really great time right now to read it in summer. It’s a great beach read.
Kimberly: It’s something that is practical, very practical, both in its content, and also that the chapters are short. So you can really take the time to focus on abundance, creativity, magnetism, and integrate it more and more into your own life. The great yoga guru Paramahansa Yogananda said that one of the real keys to forward progress and creating what you want in your life is introspection. And so this new book is really sharing teachings and practices and exercises for really turning the light inward and seeing where you can remove blocks from your life and where you can expand and create what you want. So these are the very teachings that have helped me so much and in such profound ways. So it is my great honor to offer this book to you. So let me know how you do and any questions you have about it. Of course, please ask them here in the podcast as well.
Question around the topic of: How To Make Lifestyle Changes that have Big Collective Impacts On Climate Change: Hello Kimberly! Love you! My question is about the environment. It seems like climate change is getting more and more concerning and feels overwhelming. What are things I can do to be more eco conscious.
Kimberly: Okay. So let’s get right into our show today about lifestyle changes that can really impact the whole. It’s easy to feel helpless. It’s easy to go on the news and feel the negativity start to creep in. But what we wanna do just like love is love as a verb. Love is action. And when it comes to our love of our planet, our love of wanting to protect our home, we wanna really channel our energy into forward moving practical steps. And so Stevie from Maryland. Hello, my love you write. Hello, Kimberly, love you. I love you too. <laugh> my question is about the environment. I have been reading about the negative effects of climate change, which is concerning and feels overwhelming. What are things I can do to be more eco conscious in my daily life? So thank you so much, Stevie. And again, I appreciate you so much.
Kimberly: I appreciate you being part of the community. When you ask this question, I know that many of us share these concerns because it is something that’s a reality for all of us right now. We are all in it. We all live here on planet earth, and we can see that between research shows that between 2016 and 2020 they’re, um, these are the years that we’re tagged for the warmest years on record. So we are seeing shifts across the planet. Now it’s important to understand, to hear some of this information before we go into the action steps, which is really gonna be our big focus, but when it comes to climate change, and the fact that the average surface temperature is rising, we need to see what the biggest contributors are. And it’s green has greenhouse gas emissions in the us breakdown between transportation, electricity, production, burning fossil fuels to produce goods, commercial and residential spaces.
Kimberly: And a huge one is animal agriculture. So the Amazon rain forest absorbs one fourth. So a full 25% of the CO2 absorbed by all the land on earth. However, it’s 30% less today than it was in the 1990s because of deforestation. So when we think about our earth and the way that it’s constructed and created by our creator by source, it has these natural, um, just spaces, these natural tools, these natural resources to help balance things. But unfortunately, because of tampering, these resources become depleted. And this is something we really need to be aware of as a collective in order to move forward. And so this rainforest with all its abundant nature and its vibrancy and its diversity is being depleted. And it’s important that each of us understands that this deforestation is largely because of cattle ranching. So they flatten the forest, they destroy it, and then they create flat land for cattle production so that they can sell more beef.
Kimberly: So even as we will get into the tips in a moment to me, this is infuriating. And when I started learning about this, and there was videos posted online about the fires that were being set because they were clearing the land. And so as someone who loves the forest and I spend a lot of time in the forest, when I go to Hawaii, I spend a lot of time camping and just being in the forest. It really breaks my heart to know this. And I just want everybody to know this information because it’s not always put out there in such a big way. There’s a lot of reasons for that. Unfortunately, there’s corporate bias and money making and all sorts of things, but that’s something that I really want to come across here. And so unfortunately the polar ice caps are melting and there is, you know, just a lot of change going on.
Kimberly: I will link in the show notes to more research. I don’t wanna focus on dooming gloom. There’s enough of that out there, but I just want to impart the fact that yes, things are happening and each of us needs to really step up and do our part. So I will link to the show notes and some studies when there’s really positive study, I wanna point out first, this is from 2015 from Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis, finding that increasing bicycling can have a really dramatic impact on urban transportation and emissions and can really help our planet. So that will start there. One of the things that we can do is just to pay attention to the ways in which we move through our daily lives. Is there the space to walk to something or to take your bike versus driving? The more we just try to live natural lives, the less of the carbon footprint that each of us leaves another important aspect that I can’t help, but mention up front again because of the deforestation of animal agriculture, because of the greenhouse gases that are emitted because of the whole process.
Kimberly: It is because I could go on and on top soil erosion, ocean dead zones from fishing and the chemical dumping because of raising animals to be slaughtered and to be eaten in increasingly larger amounts and portion sizes. It has a huge, huge, detrimental impact on the environment. So besides maintaining SOIC energy and aspect of ARVE medicine and promoting much healthier, energetic centering, which comes from eating mostly or all plant foods, there is this aspect of compassion with the animals. And then there’s this aspect of the environment where the less animals you eat, the lighter, the load on the environment. So this doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I personally am all plant based and I have been for well over a decade, but there’s people that dip in and out my husband dips in and out, but he’s cut back 90 to 95%. So if you are a consumer or your spouse or your family members, you can cut back.
Kimberly: You can go from two meals a day or three meals, a day consuming animal products to maybe just one. And then eventually, maybe just a few times a week on mysolluna.com. We have so many recipes just to really explore with lentils and quinoa and lentil pasta, and all these amazing foods where you can really feel satiated and, uh, they’re delicious and filling and full of protein and plus all the micronutrients. And you do not feel like you are missing out. So please head over there to check out some of this, but just know that the way in which you eat every day will affect climate change. And so it is in your hands more than any other single thing we eat day in, in day out. So just we really shifting your diet and it, and informing, sharing with others who are open to it to do the same is a huge, huge, huge thing that each and every single one of us can do.
Kimberly: Now, this next one is, um, close to my heart planting trees. So there’s many different projects. We will link to the Woodland trust, which has an aim of planting 64 million trees over the next 10 years. This is a great way to combat the gas emissions, to help balance the atmosphere. If you own land, please plant trees or be part, you know, just join an organization or contribute in some way. I, we split time between California and Hawaii. And it was one of the first things I did here was plant more trees along our property line, which, you know, creates privacy. But I’m also really passionate about trees in Hawaii. We in our nurse right now, we have 600 baby Kaka trees growing. And then we have mature CCAL trees out in the field. And of course we’re very grateful and, and lucky that we are in a space to have trees. So like I said, if you live in an urban environment and I used to live in a 500 square foot apartment in New York city, so it was not possible for me to plant trees. You can still get involved. You can still spread information about planting trees and resources or contribute, whatever you can do. It is so important that we balance our atmosphere through more greenery.
Kimberly: And then just really, um, using you see back to some basics, high quality LED light bulbs turning off lights, just trying to be more mindful of how we’re using electricity and energy and trying not to expedite shipping all these trucks, all the transportation, as much as possible, buying local shopping from the farmer’s markets, trying to source food locally, as much as possible, getting a water filter in your home instead of using plastics, which can be recycled. But again, there’s so much energy involved in that. The more we can, um, the more we can cut back the better, and then just thinking about ways in which we can live more naturally. So I remember when I was backpacking, I would wash my clothes by hand. I would put them out in the sun now to these days, I there’s a lot of laundry in my home with the babies and the husband, but I dry our clothes naturally.
Kimberly: And first of all, it’s better on your clothes. They don’t wear it down as much until that energy of the dryer. So if it’s possible, especially now because of summertime, if you could get a close line in Hawaii, don’t have a close line. I just drap them out all over the porch. Anything you can do to sort of just cut back on all the things that are running in your home, it’s going to help. And so in little ways and small ways, willing to all these different ideas in the show notes, using your bike, walking, turning off the lights, better light bulbs, just more natural living coming back to more of a plant based way of eating is huge. Spreading this information. All of this is powerful. We do not need to feel fear and helplessness. Instead, we can direct our energy into these action steps, which are so powerful and really do make
Kimberly: A difference. So please head over. As I mentioned again, to mysolluna.com for more of this information, as well as more tips and tools and other podcasts, I think you would enjoy meditations food recipes so much is over there. I’ll be back here Monday for our next interview podcast. So till then take great care and sending you so much love so much gratitude for our connection. Thank you. Thank you. Lots of love.
