Kimberly: Namaste loves and welcome back to our Monday interview show where I am so excited to share our conversation today with me and Dr. Shamini Jain, who is a scientist psychologist, author teacher. She is the founder of, and CEO of the nonprofit consciousness and healing initiative. And we talk about today. She’s also had different TEDx talks and her new book is called healing ourselves, biofield science and the future of health. So she really has this beautiful way of melding her work in science and clinical psychology and her PhD in psycho neuro immunology, as well as Eastern spiritual practices and ideas, and, um, the emerging fields of this, um, whole concept of the biofield. So it’s really interesting and fascinating and helps us realize how much innate intelligence and healing power each of us has within us.

It’s taking thousands of pages of ancient scripture and text and, and just wisdom from, from yoga, true yoga from the great yoga group.
Paramahansa Yogananda, and showing how this is so useful in everyday life. These are the teachings and the practices meditations working with your spine and your energy that have really lit my life on fire. And it was when I started incorporating these practices. It’s when I started writing books and this one, I started really shaping my life and I know if I can do it, you can do it too. So please check it out. Wherever books are sold again, it’s called you are more than you think you are. And all that being said, let’s get into our show today with the wonderful Dr. Shamini Jain.
Interview with Dr. Shamini Jain
Kimberly (00:07):
Dr. Jane, thank you so much for being here with me and your book came across my space, the healing ourselves book, and I was just really interested in chatting with you. So thanks for taking the time.
Dr Jain (00:19):
Thank you. I’m excited for our conversation, Kimberly.
Kimberly (00:23):
Well, I love that we can talk through technology on opposite coast. I’m back in California right now, as you and I were talking about, I sort of made this migration from the east coast to California, and now I’m spending more time in Hawaii cuz island life feels really good to me. And you sort of did this other migration from California to South Carolina. You said,
Dr Jain (00:46):
Yeah, that’s absolutely right. And you know, sometimes these things aren’t expected. We ended up making the move from San Diego where we were really settled, very happy, you know, thriving, nonprofit really situated there. My faculty position at UC San Diego. And then my husband got a call for the job offer of his dreams, which happened to be in my hometown where I grew up and where I never thought I would go back again.
Kimberly (01:09):
<laugh>
Dr Jain (01:10):
We were, we seriously considered. And we said, we’re gonna make this move. So of course our kids who grew up in San Diego were born and raised there said, are you crazy? Our friends said, are you crazy? And we couldn’t explain it to anybody except to say that spirit was very clear with us, that we were supposed to make the move. And you know, it’s so important. I think in our times to recognize when that happens, I write about it at Kimberly and in my chapter on surrender in the healing ourselves book, because sometimes gifts are given to us and situations come upon us. That seem almost like they’re random, but they’re
Kimberly (01:45):
Not.
Dr Jain (01:46):
So it’s, it’s a really beautiful process to be able to open to that surrender. And we’re loving it out here. Of course we didn’t know the pandemic was gonna happen and
Kimberly (01:55):
Well that’s a whole other element.
Dr Jain (01:56):
Yeah. I mean, it was amazing to be with my family. I would’ve been in a situation where I wouldn’t have been able to see them for maybe two years and that would’ve been really hard for us. So, so
Kimberly (02:06):
Do you, did you have any sort of fear your work is around healing and it’s sort of like this new edge of science, which we’ll talk about in a moment going from, you know, we could say what’s considered a very open place in California to going to, you know, just a different place where you didn’t know as many people community or, you know, did you just feel like you could always reach people through the online world or what was sort of going on inside of you?
Dr Jain (02:32):
It’s a great question. You know? Yeah. This is the Bible belt and I was born and raised here. So I grew up with Baptist Christian friends who thought very differently. You know, I went to church with them and you know, at some point I was sitting in the church and the pastor looked at me and he said, if you don’t believe in Jesus, you’re going to hell. And
Kimberly (02:49):
Wow.
Dr Jain (02:50):
And I was like, oh, maybe I shouldn’t be going to church anymore. <laugh> you know, at least not that, but I always had a really deep reverence in respect for Christian teachings and, you know, it’s the teachings. And then it’s also how the teachings are conveyed by people. And my friends were very curious about our Eastern spiritual tradition of Jan. And so they would come to my house and ask questions. So from an early age, I think I always knew that the deepest truths that we hold and that we carry in our hearts are universal. That’s the truth. Yes. You know, we see those carried out in spiritual traditions across the world. And then we have the mind, you know, of certain people that like to take those principles and organize them in ways to divide. Yeah. But that’s not essence of, of true spirituality.
So for me coming back that wasn’t a concern. I mean, first of all, a lot of our work had been online anyway. Sure. Our collaborations were online. Our education was online, our community. So people asked, well, what about the nonprofit? You know, you’ve been based in San Diego for a while and I said, oh, we’re gonna continue. And in fact, the year that we moved, we ended up taking a delegation of scientists and healthcare practitioners to India where we visited several Arus, then collected data on there, on the spiritual practices, exploring for example, what happens between us when we engage in collective meditation practice.
Kimberly (04:14):
Interesting. Yeah. Well, you know, it’s interesting, you mentioned your background because I had a similar, well, I, I grew up Catholic and with this, there was this idea of Jesus as the only pathway. And then when I started backpacking after college, I spent a lot of time in India and Risha K I found the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, which is the subject of my latest book, really bringing his teachings forward for modern life, where he talks about that oneness and the underlying energy matrix, these truths. And he was the one that first really for me, started talking about the teachings of Jesus, along with Krishna and this path of boxy and the heart and love and connection. And like you said, going past separatism and into that unity. So I am very much aligned with that idea of wow, like every what’s universal is what’s true is really universal. And we <laugh>, I think as a society go more and more, you know, beyond the boundaries, beyond this, versus that. And we come together more harmony
Dr Jain (05:16):
And that’s something that we can feel, right. It’s not something that we just know intellectually. Yes. And I have such deep respect and reverence for Paramahansa Yogananda you know, he has a very, um, a beautiful ashram in Encinitas, which is about 10 from where I used to live. And the vibration there is immense. I mean, you can feel Paramahansa Yogananda vibration still in en
Kimberly (05:37):
Oh yes. All, all the, all the ashrams, you know, that he has them all around California and all around the world. And you can feel that that real presence of love just emanating.
Dr Jain (05:47):
And he did so much to help unify our understanding of these spiritual principles that are in religions like Christianity and Hinduism. Yes. And that what it’s about. I mean, if we take a, a look at what’s going on in our world today, I think we’re all being called to not only use our discernment, you know, like where we spend our time, where we spend our energy, where we spend our mind and our money, you know, all those things, but also what are those universal threads of life and life force that tie us together. And that’s what, as you know, has really gotten me excited in my work for many decades now where we’ve been exploring this area, that Western scientists have been calling the biofield the
Kimberly (06:27):
Field
Dr Jain (06:28):
Information that connect us and heal us. Because if we know that there is this underlying oneness, that we are part and parcel of the entire universe, that we’re not separate from each other, then, you know, a key question for some of us in the healing fields is, well, how, how do we recognize and work with that for our own healing and the healing?
Kimberly (06:48):
Yes. Well, let’s, let’s take a step back for a moment. And you, you know, in your work, you use the word healing a lot, which can be a little bit nebulous for some people. So when we think about the physical body, we think, oh, healing means restoring back to our optimal organ functioning or, you know, however we wanna place it. But then there’s also the healing of the mind of emotions of healings. So would you say, how would you really talk about healing? Is it going back to our natural state peace, openness, joy bliss? How do we really know when we’re healing? I imagine it’s not really a destination we ever get to or say I’m fully healed, right? It’s more of a process.
Healing and the process of returning to our wholeness
Dr Jain (07:29):
Yes, absolutely. Healing’s a process, not an outcome. And healing is essentially a return to our wholeness. And this isn’t an abstract thing that we’re talking about. We can explore it scientifically, but I’ll just tell you the story that I’ve met with a number of different healers from so many traditions at this point. And when I ask them, you know, what, what does healing mean? You can ask a scientist that question and the scientists who study healing say, well, healing is the process of Saluto Genesises what does that mean? It’s the process of restoring function of fostering homeodynamic functioning, optimal function. We can talk about it from that physical level, but when you explore healing from the multidimensional framework, the whole person frame, and you ask healers, even energy healers, what does healing mean to you? What is going on? What are you doing when you’re doing this healing work with someone else? They’ll say, first of all, Shay, I’m not doing the healing.
Kimberly (08:28):
Okay. Yes. It’s flowing through
Dr Jain (08:30):
<laugh>. So it’s flowing through healing is happening. And all I am doing is helping the person return back to their innermost self, their there’s soul there’s spirit, their higher self God, whatever it is that they call that, that eternal essence of, as we’ve just know in, you know, in our VA literature, Seth Chi, a none, right? That essentialness, that consciousness, that oneness that you spoke
Kimberly (08:54):
Well, true self as Yogananda would say
Dr Jain (08:56):
True self. The return to the true self allows us to release those patternings. We call them vasanas or sun scars. You know, those blocks in our energy bodies, in our mental structure to release all of the, which really isn’t us, all of the conditioning that are right. So healing is a process of becoming more of who we are connecting more with that true self. And with that alignment of the true self, we begin to see the restoration of harmony and healing in my view is very much about that restoration of harmony and coherence, which is why, when we talk about healing in the health medicine fields, we can actually look at this, right? We look at things like the autonomic balance between our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, by looking at things like heart rate variability, we’re literal getting into coherence, our nervous system, because as we become more incoherence spiritually, that reverberates of course, mentally, emotionally, socially, and this is what all the healers have been saying. And of course the contemplative practitioners also, so we can stop healing facilitated for us by another practitioner, like an energy healer, an acupuncturist, a psychotherapist, they can help guide us back to ourselves and we can engage in our own practices like meditation and yoga, Chachi, Chiang, centering prayer. So many practices to bring us back to our true selves and restore harmony.
Kimberly (10:24):
Well, it’s interesting. Um, we mentioned this science starting to come in from places like the Heart Math Institute, really talking about that heart coherence. I think they’ve been, you know, in practice for over 20 years saying, Hey, this energy of the heart is real. We think about love. We think about the hearts, but it’s actually measurable now in science and how that syncopate with your, your breath and other parts of your body and the mind. So it’s fascinating. And I’d love to talk. You started to mention about the field. So where, um, Shamini we talk about our, you know, ourselves, which is really not this limited bag of bones and skin. We are this true self. We are this energy inside spirit, individualized universe, whatever word we wanna use, and we’re connected to everything. So where is our field? Our individual field, because in a sense, we are all part of the big field. Do, do you know what I’m saying? It gets a little funny to think about,
We discuss what is our individual biofield
Dr Jain (11:24):
And it’s a great question, Kimberly, cuz people will say, well, what do you mean by biofield? Yes. Always joke and say, you can really think about it more as the plural than the singular. It depends on our frame of reference in our perspective. Right? So scientifically here’s what I can tell you. We can measure the biofield of a cell, meaning we can measure the electromagnetic energy and the information connected to it. Right? We can look at that on the cellular level, we can look at it at the body level and using very basic things like EKGs and EEGs, which give us electromagnetic readouts of the organs that tell us something about our health. That’s like super tangible, right? Yes. Also look at the biofield of trees. Our friends at heart mouth are doing that. And most importantly, I think when we start examining what the biofield is telling us about our inner connection, we can look at biofields in terms of our inner connection and what it means for healing.
So they’re little B biofields, you know, like you said, what we think of as the individual biofield, but even in the cell work and you know, I don’t wanna go too deep down the rabbit hole. I talk about a lot of this in the book, but we can even look on the cellular level and see that there’s really no such thing exactly. As individualism, even in the cells. Because when you look at the work that Mike Levi, for example, at Tufts University is doing where he’s, he’s been describing the electric body. And what he’s realizing is that there is this electric communication that’s always happening between cells that help them to orchestrate how they’re gonna move about even what kinds of cells are gonna differentiate into other types of cells that might grow tissue in the body like regenerate limbs, regenerate neural tissue, but that’s not happening because of one cell it’s actually happening because those cells are communicating with each other, through an electric circuit, which, you know, he’s manipulating and working with these things, which is absolutely fabulous.
But when you step back and look at it, you’re saying, okay, the bio field, in this case is a larger governing field. That’s even governing cell communication. Then we can expand that further and say, the bio field is actually governing our behavior and it’s a two-way street. This is what I love about it. And you know, this comes of course from ancient spiritual traditions. I’m most versed, obviously in the east Indian traditions like Jan Buddhism. Viant we talk about the subtle bodies and we talk about so-called energy and information as a two way communication system between our spirit consciousness, oneness, you know, that vast formless consciousness and the physical body, our physical reality. And, and in Jan, of course there’s a deep discussion about karma. So Jan is a spiritual tradition that I grew up with and you know, his basic tenant is a Hintsa or non-violence so many people may have in that Gandhi popularized it and really used Jan principles in his non-violent action to liberate India. For example, Martin Luther king too, was a, was a, a, you know, an admir of jism and Jan is really big into karma, which is really just our thoughts words indeed. So we’re currently feeding the field from this perspective, with every thought emotion, behavior, everything that we do informs our energy and in turn that energy can inform even the health of our physical body and informs the field around us.
Kimberly (14:56):
Yes. Yeah. So let, let me, um, pause there for a second. When you were talking about the field, I can’t help, but think about, you know, the person listening to this and even myself think, well, what about the environment we’re in moment to moment, right? Because we can’t, we can’t control everything. So if we know we’re really in this sort of dynamic flux and this interaction with everything going on around us, you know, sometimes people always, I feel I meet people and I’m sure you do too, Shamani that are really, um, interested in protecting themselves and they’re wearing the, you know, the, the, the eye and they, you know, they’re really concerned with what’s around, there’s a lot of fear and then I’ve met other practitioners. I remember, um, Dr. Um, Reverend Beckwith saying to me all that protection stuff is just beginner stuff, right? Is you start to really emanate this light, your energy is strong. You know, you walk in the light, so you don’t have to be so concerned about what’s around you. Right. So how would you, um, explain that in a little bit in our work? And of course we wanna be discerning, we’re drawn towards certain people in certain situations and we’re sort of repelled from others, but as we go through and we’re working on this healing journey, how much of it is, you know, how much of, you know, what I’m saying, how much can we really worry about the things that we can’t control day, day in and day out?
The environment we’re in and how not to worry about things you can’t control
Dr Jain (16:13):
That’s a beautiful question. And I, I definitely think it’s a both end and, and, and, you know, Reverend Beckwith is absolutely right. It’s, it’s where we’re coming from, right? Yeah. My healing teacher, Reverend Roseland, Bre who’s actually based in LA, always says, energy is energy. You know, many energy healers have a practice of cleaning and doing, you know, different things, different, different energy healing practices, and practitioners kind of deal with that differently. And walking around in the world, we can be impacted by our environment. No doubt. Um, and there are practices we can do to help us stay literally grounded in ourselves and grounded in our bodies, which is step one. When we aren’t grounded, literally physically in our bodies and with the earth, we’re more likely to have our apple cart upset <laugh> by the environment, so to speak because we’re living more from a conditioned space. So,
Kimberly (17:02):
Well, how do we do that? Ch oh my God. That’s, that’s, that’s a really exciting point right there. If we’re not just grounding with our feet barefoot in the earth, let’s say you are in an urban environment. Could you just share a
Tips for grounding in our bodies and feeling more connected to the earth
Dr Jain (17:12):
Practice? Absolutely. So grounding is a universal practice. Okay. And scientifically the way we’ve looked at this mostly is through using apparatus type things. Apparat like, yes, maps and things like that in those studies clear, right? When we electrically ground with the earth, and in this case, they’ve been using maps and things. We see reductions in pain. We see reductions in anxiety. We see reductions, um, in sleep disturbances, you know, impacts on our immune and even our hormone function. So those studies are out there. There’s at least a dozen of ’em now by different investigators. Super. So what does that tell us? Do we need a mat? Well, the ancient traditions, including Tai Chi, yoga, Chiang, so many indigenous traditions have always stressed. That, of course, we’re part of nature, right? We’re not separate from it. If we’re moving from a sense of separation that I am my mind, then I’m gonna naturally forget my connection with the earth and my body.
So part of this is connecting with our body, bringing our consciousness and our awareness and our breath back into the body, ultimately connecting with the biggest aura of the planet, which is the planet herself, right? Gaia, she’s a living, breathing organism that is nurturing and sustaining all life, including us. So there is a bio energetic connection that happens. We are bio energetic beings and we can connect bio energetically with the earth. Now, most grounding proponents will say, yeah, you know, if you can get barefoot on the earth, don’t wear rubber sold shoes, cuz that actually, you know, cuts the conductivity between your body and the surface. See if you can put your feet in the dirt, see if you can actually make contact with the earth and just walk barefoot for a little bit or wear shoes that, you know, aren’t rubber, something that will help you conduct electricity between you and the earth. So that’s one type of practice, right? Then there are the mind body spirit grounding practices, because as we’re learning, the biofield is multidimensional, right? There’s spiritual levels, they’re bio electromagnetic levels, but ultimately these are fields of energy and information.
Kimberly (19:19):
Yes.
Dr Jain (19:20):
So we can do grounding meditations. I have some of those that I share, um, you know, with, with people, I think there’s some on YouTube and insight timer and, and other places, but that’s literally as simple as initially following the breath, allowing the breath to touch into the body and allowing our awareness to go deeply all the way down into our body, including our feet and our souls of the feet. So when we’re working from this more grounded place, we’re automatically expanding our field. We’re grounding our energy field and we’re expanding our energy field. And then we’re able to kind of discern what environments are healthy for us, which ones are nurturing us, but we don’t have to be in fear because when we’re grounded, it’s like being free. That has roots, right? So you may sway a little bit with the wind, but you’re not gonna break because you’re rooted. And, and I
Kimberly (20:16):
Agree
Dr Jain (20:16):
Rooted in our body is, you know, we have this physical body for a reason. And part of it is to learn how to bring this spiritual all the way into the physical.
Kimberly (20:25):
Well, I remember years ago when I came back from my around the world trip and I was starting to teach yoga Asana and I was also learning about Reiki. And so I had these protection symbols. So I remember going in the bathroom and doing my symbols and I would touch and adjust all these people. And like you said, I would sort of like, you know, almost like cleanse my hands. And then over time I just started feeling completely unnecessary. I just started to feel so connected to the great mother inside of me. It was almost like I could be around different people. And it was like, the energy was just transmuting. It wasn’t able to drag me down. So I noticed that real shift in, in my work chimney. And it’s just interesting because you know, people are where they are and that’s cool. That’s great. Wherever they are. I still have friends that literally get protection symbols tattooed on their bodies.
Dr Jain (21:12):
Wow. Yeah.
Kimberly (21:13):
Yeah. Cause they’re in that space
Dr Jain (21:16):
And you know, we don’t know like if you’ve come from a, a place of deep trauma, right? Yes. There’s an understanding that you wanna be self-protective right. Where you, you wanna make sure that you’re guarding your space and that’s understandable. But as you said, Kimberly, the more that you connect with your own limitless source, right? The less that even becomes a reality for you because you’re literally being filled moment to moment. And this is what the healers say, right? They, you know, they’ll often thank their clients because they’re getting a healing when they’re doing the healing. Yes,
Kimberly (21:46):
Yes.
Dr Jain (21:47):
Into something that’s so much larger than our conditioned mind, even larger than our experiences in this lifetime and, and connecting in with that is the beautiful magic of the field.
Kimberly (21:58):
So when in your work doctor, when we talk about cuz you mentioned the word trauma, which I think is such an important topic, let’s say it’s a one time event, like an accident or it’s this childhood, you know, neglect that goes on for many years. And so there’s this conditioning and you talk about different layers of the field. How can we best work with trauma? Is it on this multidimensional level environment, some of these mats also through psychotherapy, through spirituality and meditation, how do you work with that in your work?
Trauma and how best to work with it
Dr Jain (22:30):
So the, when we look at trauma from a spiritual perspective, right, and a bio-energetic perspective, then it’s just going into another layer of the experience as a psychologist and a clinical psychologist. We’ve explored trauma through the workings of the mind, what the mind does, what the emotions do. And when you go another layer deeper, what you recognize is that again, when you’re really looking at it almost from karmic point of view, everything that we do say and think including everything that has been done to us leaves a residue in the field. Sometimes if it’s unresolved, right? Yeah. So there’s a residue that can happen. And we can work with this in more of a whole system’s way. And there are beautiful practices that are both energy and psychotherapeutic. Um, in natures, lots of energy, psychology practices like emotionally focused therapy, advanced integrative therapy, where we can actually safely bring a trauma to mind with, you know, with a practitioner who helps hold space for us.
So these are trained practitioners who help us do this. And eventually we get to the point where we can do it on our own. Yeah. But at first we gotta have a trusted guide. I will say that it’s very helpful for someone to hold space for you. Cuz when we’re in trauma, our field shrinks, right. Our world gets smaller and smaller. So when we expand out of trauma, our field gets bigger. Our world gets bigger. Yeah. But ly, when we’re working with trauma, we can use these practices to gently bring, to mind the trauma and the way that the trauma has been impeding our growth or our desires to be free in our life. And then we use specific practices, like for example, some folks who tapping or they touch on the body around the Chuck roads. And when you do this very intentionally in a very clear and held space, you will actually feel those residues start, move out of the body.
It’s the, it’s the wildest thing. Kimberly, I gotta tell you with, with my scientific, skeptical mind when I first heard about energy psychology over 20 years ago. And you know, even after that, I was like really does this work? It must be all placebo. You know? And I gotta tell you that there’s, you know, there’s over a hundred, I think randomized controlled trials in energy psychology right now, um, that are showing the efficacy above and beyond placebo effects. You know, even in some studies down to epigenetic signaling levels. So it’s very real like it’s happening on the physical and emotional level. But when I started exploring those practices, even for myself, I was, I was just absolutely flabbergasted to notice that I would have an immediate energy shift.
Kimberly (25:06):
Yes. So
Dr Jain (25:07):
The, we choose to work on the subtle level. It’s not an either, or of course, as we work on the subtle levels, we’re also working on the gross levels. We start to see the shifts in our relationships. We start to see the shifts in our patterning, the way that we relate to others. It’s just a, it’s a, it’s such a beautiful thing.
Kimberly (25:28):
I love that there’s science backing this up. And I also think Dr. You know, for me along the journey, there’s one and you talk about going past the head and really getting into the intuition more the voice, what yo NAZA calls the infallible voice of the inner console. And sometimes for me, it sounds really simple, but just sitting and letting my spine move from this place like this non-linear place and it’s not like, oh, let me get out the book and follow the poses. And what does this energy healer say about this specific thing? But it’s, it’s like we all have that inte that secret intelligence inside of us. And sometimes this scientific framework allows us to trust that I know for me, it’s just like freeform movement has been so healing and getting outta that linear. I used to run all the time and some of us think we had to do these machines, but when we just start to trust more of this inner energy, we do become in a sense our own healers,
Dr Jain (26:20):
Not even in a sense, we are our own healers. This is very powerful. What you’re raising Kimberly is very powerful and it links back to what the healers say, I’m not doing the healing. This person is healing themselves. So how we understand this, you know, when we look from the realm of spirituality, biofield science and these highfalutin scientific fields like psycho neuro immunology, which is where I got my PhD work. Right? What is all that telling us? Absolutely
Kimberly (26:46):
Love these long terms. <laugh>
Dr Jain (26:48):
Except the long word. What is it all telling us? You’re you’re so spot on because as we tune into the inner body’s wisdom, if we sit with what all of these traditions have been telling us that it’s the unification of the mind with the body, that’s where the magic is, you know, in Tibetan and Eastern tradition, it’s often said that the vital force, our energy in our body, the vital force is like a blind horse. It goes in many different directions. It can go in so many different directions, but it, it can’t see, right. It’s just gonna do what it does. But in the mind is like a lame writer, meaning it can focus, it can have directions, but it actually has no energy of its own. And when you talk to healers, they’ll say this well, you know, healing intention, why does an intention work?
Because if you’re only working with a mental and you’re only working with your mind and you haven’t unified that with your will, you haven’t unified that with the energy of your will, you know, your actual energy healing can only go so far. So what is that first step tuning into the body? You know, moving, moving your body, cuz unfortunately most of us sit too much. We think too much. We dissociate from the body. When we feel the spine, we do the yoga asanas. We do PNY Yama life, four extension. We’re reconnecting the energy and bringing the mind to it at the same time.
Kimberly (28:09):
Yes. Beautiful. And talking about the spine doctor, I love this idea. You know, Yogananda talks about this it’s condo energy starting to go up and down where we just start to feel this real, um, just creative power. And I think sometimes in the west we can feel that power in the sacral, we feel it in the sexual organs and sometimes we don’t know how to use the power. We keep it localized. So we try to express and you know, be overly sexual to being, we see this across society to get attention or just to feel something. But can you talk about working with that energy in a pure way, this real birthing power, this creative power?
Working with the creative force
Dr Jain (28:44):
Oh, I’m so excited. That is one of my, like most favorite things to share with people and teach about it’s the creative force.
Kimberly (28:54):
Yes. Everywhere. <laugh>
Dr Jain (28:56):
Yes. And, and my workshops and stuff, the way that we work with this is actually through vocal practice through voice thing, cuz most people are really shut down with their voice and there’s a deep connection with the sacral and the voice and our creativity, right? So the, the swathe stone chakra, right? The sacral chakra that you speak about is literally the source of the juice of our life. And, and what does swathe stone chakra actually translate to one’s own a abode. This is your creative healing life force and you get to choose how you work with it and how you express it. And there are yoga practices to work with this energy, very skillfully. And if you, if you’re into expressing it in a sexual way, if you’re having sex with a loving partner, beautiful, but that is, uh, one of many choices, but you don’t have to necessarily feel like that’s the only way to express the energy.
And what we learn is when we do practices like month meditation, whatever again, where we’re unifying that energetic flow with our mind and we pair it with these ancient vibrational, they’re not even just remedies, but literally portals to divine consciousness. We can expand our healing in incredible ways. So I, you know, I teach this cuz it’s something that as a singer, this is what actually brought me to the biofield was my own experience, power of voice and vibration. So there are many ways that we can do it. As you said, moving the body first is very important. We’re taught to sort of hold, hold, hold, and then explode. I always think of that. Maybe you’ll remember, maybe you remember the Red Hot Chili Pepper song, give it away. Right. And when I first listen to, yeah,
Kimberly (30:34):
I
Dr Jain (30:34):
Give it away now give it away. So, you know, when I, when I think about it, I’m like, oh, he’s talking about the creative life force. Like that’s literally how I experienced that song because it’s like, why do we wanna hold like Kaiser? Right? We don’t wanna hold it like a Kaiser. We wanna allow that creative life force energy to flow through us for our own benefit for our creativity. We are all creators in the universe, right?
Kimberly (31:01):
Yes.
Dr Jain (31:02):
We can be creative. Yes.
Kimberly (31:03):
We have to that conditioning ways.
Dr Jain (31:06):
Yeah.
Kimberly (31:08):
I feel like it’s the conditioning that makes us suppress. We just feel shame or we don’t know how to work with that energy versus just letting it flow up. And like you said, not just in the sexual way, but in this real create, you know, this powerful co-creator way. So my experience, I keep bringing it back to Yogananda. When I started doing his Korea yoga practice, I started noticing these really big monumental shifts in my spine. And that’s when I started writing books. So I started creating my whole career was I just felt this energy starting to pour out of me, which you know, we know is within each person it’s in each soul it’s in inside of all of us. It’s just learning to unlock that because a lot of times we get into our little box. We think we have to have this one career or do things in a certain way.
Dr. Jain shares a brief practice to work on the sacral chakra
Dr Jain (31:54):
It’s so true. And we’re so multidimensional. And when we allow that creative life for synergy to flow through us, we’ll experience it. I can share a really brief practice, some, a new discovery actually that I took me back to my spiritual home <laugh> so I’ll try to make this brief, but as I was studying with Rosalyn, I noticed from my own experience that there seemed to be a really strong connection between my sacral chakra and the tip of my tongue. Now, if you really reflect you, look at it from like the romantic point of view, how did French kissing develop all that? Right? You could think about it in that way, but I asked her about it and she didn’t have an answer. I later learned that there is a naughty, a subtle energy channel that’s called the SU nay that actually moves from the sacral to the tip of the tongue and then also to the forehead.
So there is a current of energy that moves from the SAC to the tongue, but also up through the head, right up through wow. Helping to open the central channel. And then we’re actually just, you know, as you and I are having this conversation, it’s the last day of our Jan holidays, which is called the, and so during this time we do reflections. We do meditation. We may do fasting, you know, similar to me traditions and I’ve been reading. So I was reading a book by Acharya SSI, who is one of the highest monks of the Jan order. And he described a chakra called, um, you know, basically Broma CHRA, which is on the tip of the tongue. Wow. Describes this chakra as a chucker that connects the sacral and allows you to work with this creative life force energy to, you know, be able to move beyond just the sexual impulse or the sexual drive, not a slave to your sexual drive. Right. But by bringing awareness and bringing the energy up.
So if anybody is struggling with this, because you know that creative life force energy is very strong and we have been culturally conditioned to feel like that means we need to go find a partner and release this energy. And that’s the only thing we know what to do. Right? Yeah. We wanna explore finding our creative juice one and bringing that energy literally up the body. I encourage people when you go into meditation to just explore this connection between the sacral and the tip of your tongue and because I’m a singer and I love sound making, I’d invite you to then work with that current of energy to first make the sounds that come naturally to you. And then if you’re a month or chanter to think about chanting in that way with placing that energy, um, I, I have found it to be very powerful and I sort of came to it.
Kimberly (34:28):
I love that.
Dr Jain (34:29):
You know, I literally came to it on my own, through my own experience and then started reading these texts and said, oh, okay, this has been known for a very long time.
Kimberly (34:37):
Well, and char their actual physical, um, like touching the tongue or you know that, um, I forget the name of the PNE ya, where you roll the tip back. It’s that cooling practice. It’s
Dr Jain (34:47):
A cooling practice. Yes. It’s a practice where you can also curl the tongue. Yes. Like the tongue on the tip behind the teeth, you know, to bring the energy up. Um, and
Kimberly (34:58):
We’re doing that. You
Dr Jain (35:00):
Don’t need to go to surgery. We don’t need to do any of that. Right. We can do that on our own.
Kimberly (35:04):
Wow. Yeah. I just, I, I feel that, you know, again, we can feel it in the body. I can literally, while you’re explaining this, I could actually feel the current coming up and this is why I love your work. And I think it’s so powerful because I just think as a society, back to the conditioning, we’re really conditioned to focus on what we can see with our two physical eyes versus the intuition versus this third eye. So in our com in our community, shaman, it’s our cornerstones, our food body. I started as a nutritionist and then emotional wellbeing and spiritual growth. And I’ve always found it. I’m sure you have as well when we’re fixated on just the body or fixated on being skinny or the food it’s because we’re not nurturing these unseen parts of us, these deeper, energetic parts of us. We start to get more sense when we start to get clinical, uh, psychology. What did you say? Neuro immuno immunology or whatever your peak.
Dr Jain (35:56):
Yeah. Psycho. Let’s just say P and I for short. Yes. Right? Psycho neuro immunology. I joke if you could say that word nine times really fast, you get your degree. <laugh> cause nobody can say the word. So we say P and I,
Kimberly (36:06):
The biofield like the subtle energies around to really understand that this is part of, uh, this is how we can really claim true wellbeing in health. Is this knowledge, this, and also just trusting that inner healer to, to go into the intuition. When you’re talking about the tip of the tongue, it’s not something I process here. I can feel it inside and
Dr Jain (36:26):
All interconnected. Right. So we can work on our physicality. We can work on our nutrition. Absolutely. Because our body is a temple for spirit. Sure. The spirit guides us actually into like, oh yeah, I don’t need to eat that. Or I don’t need to expose myself to this environment, or this is gonna be really, this relationship’s gonna be really healing for me. That’s all interconnected. And, and that’s what the beauty is. I mean, that’s what the science is showing us. Right. We are whole people, we’re spiritual beings having physical, emotional, social experiences co-creators of this planet. You know, I just got off, um, doing an interview of my own for our science of healing course for the consciousness healing, which I’m so excited about, oh my God, it’s like this brilliant offering of, you know, deep dives into consciousness. The biofield exploring placebo, mind, body, spirit practices and the biofield energy healing. And so as part of that, we’re interviewing lots of luminary, scientists and healers, um, who are part of the course as guest faculty. So I just got done talking with, uh, Dr. Jude Curvin and Ivin Laslow, I don’t know if you’re familiar with them, but no incredible cosmologist systems scientists. Um, Ivin Laslow is a two time piece prize, Nobel peace prize nominee. He’s 90 years old is such a forward thinker in the field, but <inaudible> was describing how literally cosmologically, when we look at the science, we recognize that we are an ever evolving spec of dust in the universe. We have literally evolved, like we, we are the hydrogen, we literally are star dust and we continue to evolve in an evolving universe.
Kimberly (38:00):
Yes.
Dr Jain (38:01):
And like, when we think about that in terms of our spiritual growth, it means one we’re really not separate when we look at it from that cosmological point of view, right? Like we’re really part of the universe. The universe is ever evolving. We are evolving along with it. And when we choose to engage in these spiritual growth practices, like has taught us with Korea, yoga and these, you know, other practices, we become more of who we truly are.
Kimberly (38:26):
Yes. And who we truly
Dr Jain (38:28):
Everywhere, you know, in our,
Kimberly (38:30):
This, this wholeness too shaman you speak about is this profoundness. And what I found because in, in our community and in the community at large, you know, there’s so many, um, issues today about not feeling good enough comparing all the social media stuff, comp you know, competition. It really dissolves that because it’s almost like hilarious, right? Yes. It’s like, how would we, how could you compete with yourself? Like, we’re all so interconnected, but yet there’s this uniqueness of us that can’t be contrasted or compared it’s it just goes beyond all of that.
Dr Jain (39:04):
It is. And then we can celebrate, right? Like I can celebrate your success, the success of my friends, my colleagues, even people, I don’t know, because you are just expressing yourself in a different way. I am, you expressed consciousness expressed in another way. And, and this is what we’re learning is the universe is evolving in its complexity and its diversity. But if, when we look back to the origin of it, we’re all still one. We’re just expressing this beautiful creative consciousness in so many forms. So, and there is no scarcity, there’s no separation, that’s all an illusion.
Kimberly (39:39):
It is all the fear, all the playing smallness, it just starts to dissolve.
Dr Jain (39:44):
So I will say this though, Kimberly there, you know, in the physical, like, you know, world that we live in, where most of the world right now is run by what I would call conditioning. Right? Yeah. That you mind, that’s a reality. Let’s just name it. Okay. I personally experienced this recently. I gave a TEDx talk for TEDx Berkeley. It’s my second Ted talk. I was invited to give this talk. They really wanted a science based talk on the biofield or the power of our healing connection. I was so excited to give that talk and I did. And as part of the Ted process, of course, they ask for scientific references for everything that you share. And I was very eager to give them those scientific references and gave them the list of about almost 30 scientific references. You know, peer reviewed, published. Some of these studies are published in science, which is the top journal in the world.
Yes. So very excited. And then I found that they quietly released the talk without telling me change the title of it and put a flag on it. And, and what if people aren’t familiar with what flags mean in Ted? It literally means like they say, disclaimer, you know, we don’t believe that the, you know, and this things about this being my personal research approach, which is totally untrue because I was sharing research for many, many different colleagues, you know, many. Um, and it was very disappointing because here you have Ted who is supposed to be a leader in the sharing of science that matters not just, I told them, you need to be about not just ideas, worth spreading, but evidence worth sharing. Yeah. And here in my book and in this Ted talk, and in our course, we’re sharing this evidence. Um, what, what is the issue like why does Ted have a hard time sharing evidence in this field? It’s not just my talk that they have censored. They have sh they have banned Rupert shell Drakes talk. They have to
Kimberly (41:29):
Woo stuff. Yeah.
Dr Jain (41:31):
Censored, but even things that are pretty quote normal for people like breathing. They are censoring talks. Wow. About more breathing for health of all the, so what is going on there? You know, we could look deeply into that and say, people become entrenched in their own worldview. Yes.
Kimberly (41:48):
And
Dr Jain (41:48):
Have a lot of conversations in our nonprofit with our healing advisory councils and scientific advisory councils who are so eager and passionate to share the real evidence and the practices behind healing. And, you know, ultimately it’s about the experience. So the folks at Ted have their own experience. They have their own mindset. Based on that experience, we get to choose whether we wanna move from a consciousness of scarcity and separation, or if we choose to move into something that is actually evidence based that shows us that that is simply a myth
Kimberly (42:22):
And also aligns with our intuition and this opening of our heart that we can feel when something feels constricted. It just, it all aligns. So I love that the science is supportive. I could talk to you forever, uh, Charney. This is fascinating. And thank you so much for all your time and your wonderful book, healing ourselves. We will link directly to the book in our show notes and more on your work. And just thank you so much for being here and just sharing from your heart, from this evidence based, but also just holistic, just expansive place of biofield healing and healing in general and all of this amazingness.
Dr Jain (43:08):
Thank you, Kimberly. Thank you for your light and for such a beautiful conversation. You sharing your wisdom during this conversation. Um, I know many will benefit, so thank
Kimberly (43:17):
You. Thank you so much. Namaste.
Dr Jain (43:20):
Namaste
