Right now, you may be feeling the familiar effects of general brain fog and fuzziness set in. It doesn’t feel good! You may struggle to move through life feeling enthusiastic, or how you long to feel. And yet there is a gap between where you want to feel and what is really present for you.
Not to worry— we’ve all been there!
The ebbs and flows of our energy take place for all of us. And yet, we can take proactive steps and integrate ways to nurture ourselves deeply on a daily basis, to keep renewing the incredibly precious resources of our focus and energy.
Without Focus We Are Lost at Sea
Without energy and focus, we are like ships being tossed on the waves. We feel like our energy is going in a million directions. We forget what we were trying to say in an email or in a conversation, and we struggle to feel creative.
And yet the truth is that we can renew ourselves from the inside out, just like every other thing— our beauty, our health, our joy. We’ve been taught the big fat lie in society that it’s the outer external focus that we need— shining up the outside and buying countless products and devices to help bolster us up.
Sure some things are definitely helpful, and there is no right and wrong. No matter how bio-hack friendly we are (my husband is certainly in that category!) or not, there is no getting around the fact that tapping into our natural power and potential within is absolutely essential in recharging our energy and focus in the deepest and most profound way (sans caffeine).
Tangible Tips to Incorporate Into Your Life
Day by day, we have to generate more energy from within with the practices and lifestyle that we keep. No one but us can do this for ourselves. This is the kind of use of our will that the great yoga guru Paramahansa Yogananda talked about— directing our energy to positively benefit us, and therefore the whole of which we are part.
Here are some tips to start living in your own life today.
Bring More of the Water Element Into Your Life
Water is the source of deep nourishment in your life, which started out with being immersed in the pure nourishment of the amniotic fluid when you were an infant. When we are dry and dehydrated, we are lacking in this vital force.
Water is the element associated with the Svadhishthana, or sacral chakra, which is the seat of our creative power. We can amplify it and bring it into our writing, work, playtime, relationships, everything— only when it is properly nourished with water and fluids.
As such:
- Drink more room temperature water, day in and day out. You need more than you think!
- Nourish the cerebrospinal fluid in your spine with regular hip and neck rolls.
- Drink hot elixirs in the evening as a regular practice— even simple ginger tea is great.
- Take salt baths, emerging in water all around your body to help loosen stagnation.
- Bring a little water feature to your desk or kitchen— like a fountain or a Zen water board. It can be tiny, but its presence is still powerful.
Connect to Earth More
Mother Nature, Gaia, is here to help get us anchored and centered. She is a living organism that is here to nurture us. When we feel spacey and frazzled, it is often because we are too much in our minds versus in the deep presence of this moment.
Here are some ways to incorporate her presence:
- Keep lots of house plants around, which are mini embodiments of soil to seed to abundance growth.
- Ground with your bare feet on the earth as much as possible— on the beach, in your yard or local park, or wherever you have access.
- Use earthy spices often in your cooking like cumin, turmeric and freshly ground black pepper.
- Meditate on the ground when you can, making contact with the great Mother with your root chakra, your hips and lower spine.
Connect to Your Spine
The word yoga roughly translates to union, and this union is between you and the Divine, the Universe/Source/God. Our conception is conditioned by our past and culture, so use whatever word or concept feels good to you.
The point though is that we connect to the whole through the center of us, and that is your spine. When you meditate, the purpose is to move your awareness from all the senses and the peripheral nervous system, and into your central nervous system that is your spine. This is called Pratyahara, the limb of yoga focused on the great moving inward of energy.
The more time you spend inside, focused on tapping into deeper levels of stillness, the more you will feel renewed energy building up within you. The more you will feel a deeper sense of focus, which moves you from heady decision-making to a much more flow place, where decisions seem to rise and are answered from within.
We have to make an effort to go within, and this has to be a regular practice to counterbalance all the time we spend outside in the busy, sense-driven world.
The primary practice I urge you to take on in your life is morning meditation. Try to meditate as close to waking up as possible. We have a whole library of free guided meditations for you here. They are generally around 7 minutes, so you can work it in with a little planning.
This time spent within is time expanded. It’s where you go into the doorway beyond limitation and linear time— you will be able to tap into increasingly higher fountains of energy and beyond. That has been my personal experience!
I know that when I get too linear, too in my head, it’s when I feel the most depleted of energy, the most unfocused. Everything seems blocked, like I’m trying to move a rock uphill. Ugh.
Sure, we all dip in and out of those times. But I’ve gotten deeper into my practices, and everything I share here with you has come from my own experiences! Now I feel more vitality and more energy than I ever have, truly. And I want nothing but for you to also experience this as well. :)
We are here to share, to connect, and to support each other.
The more we recognize our shared connection, and our true equality as all drops of consciousness of Spirit, the more we sink into the true power of harmony and connection.
Thank you for being here! I’m grateful for you!!
With much love and gratitude,
