Cleansing and detoxing is something that I’ve been talking about for many years. And from the beginning of my career, I was really interested in this idea that there are layers and toxins put on top of us that don’t allow us to express our fullest potential. This week as we launch our Waterfall Cleanse, it is so clear to me that cleansing cannot just be about physicality. It’s not just about our bodies.
In order to cleanse, let go of stagnation and old energy, we also have to look at the mental, emotional and spiritual components. This is one of the reasons that fasting has been a spiritual practice for thousands of years. And what we’re going to be talking about today in terms of cleansing is this holistic approach, which is how you are going to get the best results. When we take a reset and we look at all aspects of our life, including our mental and emotional patterns, it allows us to disrupt, it allows us to create change.
What we see in the physical world, in your body, and in your life comes from the formless. It comes from the thoughts and the beliefs that preceded that. If we don’t address those in a cleanse, you may lose some temporary water weight. You may slash calories and lose a little bit of fat, however, it will never be sustainable and you will never get the really deep results.

Kimberly: 00:00 Namaste loves and welcome to our Thursday Q&A show where we have a very important topic for spring, How To Cleanse Safely and Effectively for Optimum Holistic Health. Cleansing and detoxing is something that I’ve been talking about for many, many years. My first book, the Beauty Detox Solution, which published in 2011, was literally about how to cleanse your system and reset to get rid of bloat and excess weight and cleansing the skin and many different aspects. And so from the beginning of my career, I was really interested in this idea that there are layers and toxins put on top of us that, um, don’t allow us to express our fullest potential. In the beginning, I was very much focused on the body, on physical toxins, on cleansing our GI tract, and that is a core component of cleansing because our physical bodies really are so intimately part of the feedback loops of the mind of our emotions.
01:14 It relates to our hormones, it relates to our weight, it relates to our nervous system, to our immunity. Everything is interrelated. So where I stand today is here in 2023 this week as we launch our waterfall cleanse, which I’m very excited to share with you for the first time, it is so clear to me that cleansing cannot just be about physicality. It’s not just about our bodies. In order to cleanse, in order to let go of stagnation and old energy, we also have to look at the mental, emotional and spiritual components. And this is one of the reasons that fasting has been a spiritual practice for thousands of years. It’s the chance for us to reset our lives. So the precursor to wait to overeating, to being wrapped up in food cravings, to feeling really frustrated with not really understanding how to just take care of ourselves comes from stress.
02:19 It comes from limited beliefs, it comes from mind patterns, it comes from lifestyle patterns that we continue to play out in our lives. So this is something that I know from personal experience and working with so many different kinds of clients and living with clients for months at a time during film shootings and during press tours, is that we really need to take a holistic approach. So what we’re gonna be talking about today in terms of cleansing is this holistic approach, which is how you are going to get the best results. When we take a reset and we look at all aspects of our life, including again, our mental and emotional patterns it allows us to disrupt, it allows us to create change. What we see in the physical world, what you see in your body, what you see in your life comes from the formless. It comes from the thoughts, it comes from the beliefs that preceded that. So if we don’t address those in a cleanse, you may lose some temporary water weight. You may slash calories and lose a little bit of fat, but it will never be sustainable and you will never get the really deep results. So I’m really excited to get into cleansing as a lifestyle, as a, as a holistic approach today, which is really important for spring in Ayurveda. Spring is considered this season for cleansing. This season four pancha karma, which is the Ayurvedic version of cleansing, which involves enemas. It involves a whole, a whole system. So that’s what we are drawing from in our wisdom.
03:56 We’re talking about cleansing as well. Part of that comes from our Ayurveda as we’re talking about the Waterfall Cleanse. It’s this whole system cleanse. And spring is the time to do that, to help remove the stagnation and the heavier patterns from winter. Everything is cyclical. So we see that in nature. We see that with the circadian rhythms, the seasonal shifts, the the shifts between the morning and the evening and everything in between. So it’s really important that we approach everything from this, um, this deep wisdom of that. It’s not gonna be the same every day. It’s not gonna be the same every season, right? So as we prepare for lightness, we’ve taken time to go inward in the winter, we have ideas, we’ve created resolutions around New Year’s, all sorts of things have happened, and now we spring into action. And so part of that springing into action means that we are able to have our potential, our energy supporting us.
04:58 So we need to shed the old, we need to shed stagnation and then we can move forward. So I’m very excited to get into our show today. There is a lot I have to say about cleansing, which yes does happen in the body naturally through our elimination organs, including our colon, our skin, our kidneys, our lungs. Um, so a lot and so forth. But because we live in toxic times, because the modern world is full of excess materials and stressors and busyness and 24/7 onlineness, we need to give ourselves more support. It’s not gonna benefit us to stick our head in the sand and be like, well, cuz I read, I read that sometimes, um, you know, people are told this, well, our body’s cleansed naturally, so we don’t really need to do anything. You know, that’s, we can take that approach, but again, because there’s so much overload on our systems all the time in this world, we just need some extra support.
05:59 And that’s just the way it is. From our food supplies to the busyness of life, we get caught in patterns and we really need this period of these periods of reset, these periods of inner, um, retreat. You don’t have to pay to go on a fancy yoga retreat. You can do this in your own home with guidance and with support. So we’re gonna get into that right here, right now. 07:05 So now our topic today cleansing safely and effectively, we’ll get into all of it. Why we cleanse, how do we do it? What is our approach? So our question comes from Katherine, who lives in Pennsylvania. Thank you Katherine. My love for participating, for leaving a question for us today. And your question is, Kimberly, I love your podcast. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I really wanna do a cleanse and do a reset for the spring. Do you have any suggestions? So yes, Katherine, your question is so well timed with the launch of our waterfall cleanse and what we are doing here and springtime. So I am very, very excited. So let’s drop into this right here, right now. So traditionally fasting and cleansing has been utilized for thousands of years, okay? It’s been part of our veda, it’s been part of many, many traditions, too many to name here.
08:07 But the idea was to disrupt, to reprogram ourselves, to have a different relationship between us and the so-called external world. So even though everything is interrelated, there is our awareness, our personal consciousness, we are part of the whole, but we are also an individualized soul, a spirit in this world. We have an individualized physical body, right? So the purpose of fasting and cleansing was to create this, um, renewal. And then this has been passed down for thousands of years. We see naturally in nature when animals are sick or they need to repair themselves in some way, they need to
Kimberly: 08:54 Heal. They naturally fast, they naturally shut down the heavy process of digestion so that their energy can go elsewhere to healing. And so I focused a lot on the physical body at the beginning of my career, at the beginning of my, you know, my book writing is an author, but a lot has happened in the past, you know, 12 years or so since that first book was published. A lot <laugh>, including the birth of our four cornerstones, food, body, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual growth. So I really stepped back from my client work when I started having babies. It just wasn’t possible for me to travel around the world and to give that sort of 24 7 care as a new mother. But starting in 2022 in particular, I started to have clients come back to me asking if I could help them, um, prepare for film work and what was going on in their lives in a deeper way.
09:54 So this was the birth of the waterfall cleanse, and I called it the waterfall cleanse because I’ve used this analogy for years. <laugh> and a waterfall is ever renewing, it’s always letting go of stagnation. It’s the nature of the waterfall to be in this radiance, this true health potential that I believe we all have inside of us. So I started creating a cleanse, which is now the waterfall cleanse for my clients that involved everything that I know now. It includes guided meditations, it includes our Solluna supplements, of course, which are essential if you’re trying to move physical matter out of your body and rejuvenate your microbiome, which is key to this whole process. It includes a stretch video because releasing physical tension from the body is absolutely crucial. If we’re, if we’re wanting to rework limited beliefs, it includes daily journaling because in this reset period, we need to go in deeper and see what is it that I really believe?
10:57 What am I living out in my life? Because if we don’t address that, if we go d, if we don’t go to that level, we’ll just slash calories for a few days, <laugh>, and then we’ll go back to what we were doing. And we’re not really creating that deep, deep cleansing. So imagine spring is this energy of renewal in the collective things are budding, things are growing, this is our chance to reshape our lives. So we really wanna go into this reset in a holistic way. I even recommend it in the cleanse itself that you cut yourself off from media and social media as much as possible for the three days of the cleanse. This is so we can turn down the noise on the ex in the external world, and then we can turn up our level of hearing, our inner voice, our level of hearing, our intuition.
11:52 And this guidance will save us so much energy. It will allow us to better understand when we are hungry, what we need to eat, what inspired action to take, what is pushing too much, what is not nourishing anymore, what is too little, what is too less? This is crucial into living a life of vitality and expansion and abundance and all of what we really want. So it’s really important that we approach it in this way. And so when we take a reset, here are some of the benefits. Imagine that there’s this machine that’s constantly working all day long. Let’s say it’s the water filter in your home. So we have a whole house water filter, and it’s chugging away all the time, just cleansing the water so that we’re not inhaling toxins as we shower, as we bathe, we have a, an extra filter for drinking water.
12:53 But in general, this whole house filter is clean cleaning all the time. And then on Fridays for two hours, it sort of takes this break and it’s making all this noise and it’s sort of like catching up and stuff comes out of it and it’s sort of doing this own little reset. So think of that in terms of our physical bodies. Our bodies are going all day long, and we know that in this busy world, if you’re a busy mom like me, you’re rushing to make lunch and drop your kids off at school and get to work or clean the house or do grocery shopping, take care of business, and then pick up your child from school and then run to soccer practice or, and then make dinner. Million different things are happening in a day, right? If you don’t have kids your day could look like, you know, checking emails right away and then running to a million different zoom meetings and just saying yes to a million different things and trying to fit out your workouts and your body is just going and going and going.
13:59 So what happens is we unconsciously live out beliefs, we live out patterns without really understanding why we’re doing it or why things are happening, why we are getting limited results. So when we take a break, and this is why, you know, traditionally people like to do yoga retreats, they like to physically get out, go somewhere. It’s a bit of a change when we reset our environment. But what I’m saying is we have the opportunity to go really deep, deeper, even than some of the retreats that are out there, which can be fun and exciting, but maybe not taking us to the depth that is going to create a true reset. You can do this right in your own home. You don’t need to spend a bunch of money on, you know, travel
Kimberly: 14:51 And hotels. This is an opportunity for you to reset across your life. And I will emphasize again, form follows form less. So this is why this Waterfall Cleanse and, and doing a cleanse in general is powerful. If you take the opportunity to go into the emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies within you and see what is it that I’m constantly creating, what is my, what are my beliefs, you know, what are my patterns? And we we’re gonna look at that. So every day there’s journaling prompts and twice daily guided meditations to go into this, um, what is called the zero point field, the place of potential. There’s so much healing that happens when we combine these powerful, powerful guided meditations and journaling prompts along with taking detoxy, starting and ending with a fiber filled g g s, having cleansing juices in the middle, having your, um, incredible digestive enzymes, your probiotics stretching the body.
16:00 Okay, now we’re, we’re going deep on all levels and some of the potential benefits are creating vitality, inner balance and harmony. So when we’re running all the time and our nervous system is jacked up, we rob ourselves of equanimity and peace. This translates to accelerated aging, inflammation, confusion in the mind, and we don’t really get our projects done. We don’t have any sort of fulfillment in our lives. So this balance, this place of approaching our life from a grounded place is invaluable. We will also feel more radiant and light, more glowing, more focus and clarity when we are gunked up in our gi tract scientific way of saying it. But really, you know, we get the point across when we say that there’s a gunk and junk and our microbiome is in dysbiosis. We will always struggle with bloat and weight gain. And that was my journey.
17:00 Four years. It was so frustrating to count calories and to eat so little and still feel so heavy. So we need to reset our microbiome. And part of that is the, um, balance of neurotransmitters. Part of that is this incredible joy that can just emanate out of us. And clarity, mental clarity. There’s so much. I was at Expo West last week, which is a big show that is like all the hot products in the wellness space across categories and just, um, suppliers and everything related to wellness products. And I was shocked at how many products the hot products, um, tent. This huge area was about including caffeine in chocolate, in drinks and upping it in foods. It’s like straight caffeine and everything, which says to me, we are still in the midst of an energetic crisis. People do not feel energy. We are grasping for energy, we are desperate despite all the knowledge that caffeine does wear the body down and we can have some caffeine, but we don’t wanna over rely on caffeine.
18:15 Part of this is because there’s so much toxicity weighing down our bodies. Our bodies are working overdrive, our bodies are trying to digest. Our bodies are overloaded, our livers are overloaded. Our kidneys and our adrenal function has slowed down, which in traditional Chinese medicine is the key to our, the jing, our our chi, our uh, vitality. So yes, we wanna focus on eating healthy foods and living a lifestyle with peace, calmness, meditation connection. Part of it is also not putting in all the junk, and this is physically with foods. And this is also the junk of the limited beliefs of the mind and the patterns which we keep living out over and over again. So when we go into the waterfall cleanse or we go into a holistic cleanse like this, it is almost the potential of having an an ecstatic experience and, um, we can feel better, more, uh, just sleep and calm and rest.
19:21 So I started doing this holistic cleanse. I did it with my husband who is on whoop, which is a tracking device for H R V, resting your, your heart rate variability and other factors. And it was incredible how much his numbers went up. And it’s inspired me to have some measurables on these cleanses and other things, which I’ve always focused on the experiential, but I can see the measurables, um, are quite potentially incredible. And I started doing this very cleanse with some of my clients, as I mentioned, that are getting ready for films and, you know, big shootings and things that they’re doing, big film shootings and photo shootings. And it was just incredible to get the feedback, not just about having juices and smoothies and the supplements, but also the journaling and the meditations and the stretching and just this reset on a deep, deep level.
20:18 So when we honor our wholeness, we are able to really experience the benefits. But we really wanna go beyond food in this cleanse. But let’s start with the cornerstones. I wanna run through what a, what a real holistic cleanse would would involve. So again, Rumi would talk about cleansing Yogananda Buddha, the Roman Maharshi. There was, there’s so many traditions where this has been passed down as a chance to deepen our connection with self, with the true self.
21:24 And so in modern day we often just take this partial approach. Let me just drink some juices for three days. No, that’s not going to give you what you can get from this. We wanna go deep. So food-wise, yes, we are disrupting what you are used to eating. The body is used to eating certain things. So this is where mental strength will come in because it’s going to be challenging for some of us, particularly on day two for some of us day one to say, wait a minute, where is my lunch? Where is my dinner? I’m used to eating this. So because we start an end with the fiber filled g g s, it’s gonna give you that, um, sustained energy. You’re gonna have juice, you’re going to um, have elixirs. The heat is gonna help you in the morning and the evening. We are disrupting your food pattern on purpose so that afterwards we will reset.
22:19 And one of the things that will also reset for you are your sodium levels. So when we slash quote normal foods for a few days, when we go back, everything will sort of be in this different, um, just clarity to your taste buds, a reset all around the tastes. We tend to go overboard with some of these stronger tastes and then the subtler ones get lost. So this disruption to the food by going blended and elixir and juice is, um, really important. It also rests your digestive system. It allows more to be cleared out of your GI tract. So it’s helping us purify and work on what’s already in there, what’s creating fatigue, what’s clogging my body. So from a body perspective, we wanna take the proper supplements to support. It’s not about taking 50 supplements because your body has to metabolize things, but when we are taking the core Solluna supplements, the probiotics, the SBO probiotics, which, uh, nourishing and creating deep health and balance in your GI tract when you’re taking your digestive enzymes to help your body further break down what’s in there.

And I’ve gotten fascial release that is very painful, but really wonderful where they will press on certain organs to release some of the fascia that’s been calcified and it also releases emotions. Imagine so by we’re stretching, if you do any sort of foam rolling, any fascia work during your cleanse, you are helping to cleanse old energies physically from your body, which is really powerful by the way.
24:48 In doing this, you could notice a glow of rejuvenation to your skin. I noticed in my hubby his, um, slight ruddiness this redness, which comes sometimes because he is very pitta, he’s out of fire, he has a lot of hot sauce. His skin just started to look so glowing and amazing and his energy was through the roof. He was doing his CrossFit workouts, he was still boxing, he was doing everything he was doing during the cleanse. So it was amazing how the energy just started to restore. Sometimes we think we need to get energy always from outside sources. We always need to eat to get energy, we always need to get, get, get. But the truth is, as we open the body, as we open our own energy, we actually feel and we source and we connect to more energy from the inside out. So the emotional part of this is absolutely key.
25:38 So the emotional body, the mental body is what is perceiving stress, what is perceiving constriction and tightness, which literally locks down our gi tract, which literally pulls blood flow and circulation out of our organs and into fight or flight, into secreting these stress hormones into nothing, into the air <laugh>. It’s a complete depletion. So when we get down into, you know, again the qualities of the Waterfall Cleanse, what am I still holding onto? What do I wanna create? What do I wanna use my energy for? What am I finally ready to let go of? We’re able to really create more self-awareness. So the core of a lot of spiritual teachings is awareness and contemplation. Yes, we can meditate and that’s part of the program as well, which we’ll talk about in a moment to get into that moment, that experience of allness passed our limitations into the field of intuition, into the field of abundance.
26:43 But mentally, we wanna get our mind and our emotions on board as well. So understanding that the mental and emotional part of us is a huge key in creating wellness. We need to understand that we are constantly making choices. We are prioritizing, we are creating with our thoughts. So we wanna make sure our thoughts are on board and in alignment with what we’re doing. So it’s so important. It’s so important that we take this, this opportunity to look at the root of our lives. And so this cleanse is holistic because we’re not just disrupting our food patterns. We’re not just disrupting the gi tracked, overload, <laugh>. We are disrupting patterns in our minds and this is why we wanna turn down the noise as much as possible and potentially get off social media and as much of the news as possible just for three days. And we go into that in the cleanse.
27:42 And I give tips for communicating first and really allowing this space spiritually. This is, you know, where cleansing comes from, spiritual traditions to reset our relationship with self to reprioritize. Maybe we’ve been going off the meditations, we’ve just gotten into a bit of a funk, maybe we’re not clear about the direction of our lives. So the meditation part of the cleanse, um, the waterfall cleanse, um, they’re called connecting with your heart, your body’s energy, releasing stress and stagnant energy into lightness, elevating your vitality. These are all really important parts of doing this cleanse in this holistic way. So once again, I encourage you, this is created from my heart, from direct personal experience to check out our new Waterfall Cleanse, which just launched this week.
